Assistant / Associate Biologist

Responsibilities Perform complex laboratory analysis of plasma and plasma products in a GMP laboratory, including sample accessioning, sample preparation, reagent preparation, testing, result calculation, and quality control of assays and equipment. Support assay validation, method transfer, reagent and control qualification, and laboratory maintenance activities as assigned. Work with infectious material daily and operate in a biological safety cabinet; utilize a microscope as needed. Proficiently use micropipettes and serological pipettes for dilutions and serial dilutions; follow SOPs and oral instructions; maintain precise, legible, and organized documentation. Assist with bioburden and endotoxin testing of in-process product samples and raw materials to support plasma production processes. Support environmental monitoring of production and testing areas as needed and contribute to maintaining site production processes in a controlled state. Qualifications Assistant Level: Associate degree in a life science field, medical technology, or related curriculum with at least six months of applicable laboratory experience, or a BS/BA in a life science field; background in medical technology/clinical laboratory science and GLP/GMP laboratory experience is preferred. Associate Level: Knowledge equivalent to a minimum of two years of college biology coursework (one year general biology with labs and one year microbiology with labs); background in medical technology/clinical laboratory science and GLP/GMP experience is preferred. Ability to perform tasks following written or oral instructions; strong documentation skills; willingness to perform cleaning duties as needed. Work Environment & Requirements Office and laboratory/manufacturing environment with exposure to biological fluids and potential infectious organisms. Exposure to environmental conditions, including cold environments in production areas; use of personal protective equipment such as eyewear, garments, and gloves. Physical requirements include sitting or standing for 2-4 hours per day, frequent hand movements, precise movements, light to moderate lifting up to 35 lbs, and occasional bending or reaching. Color perception and near vision required; ability to communicate complex information and follow procedures.
