Director of Public Relations InnoVision Marketing Group | San Diego, CA InnoVision Marketing Group is looking for an exceptional Director of Public Relations to lead our PR department and drive earned media strategies for a diverse portfolio of clients across a wide range of industries. This is a leadership position for someone who knows how to lead people, develop smart PR strategies and, most importantly, secure meaningful media coverage. We are not looking for someone whose definition of PR ends with writing a press release and distributing it. We want a proven media relations professional who knows how to identify a story, find the angle that makes it newsworthy, build relationships with journalists and editors, pitch intelligently and persistently, and ultimately get our clients into the publications, broadcasts, podcasts and other media outlets that matter. What You’ll Lead As Director of Public Relations, you will oversee the strategy, execution and performance of InnoVision’s public relations efforts while providing leadership, direction and mentorship to our PR team. You will work across an unusually broad client portfolio, ranging from consumer-facing brands to legal, healthcare, medical and investment-related organizations . That requires someone who can move comfortably between very different industries, audiences and levels of complexity. Some assignments require consumer awareness and lifestyle media. Others require the ability to understand complex legal matters, medical and healthcare topics, capital raises, investor communications and sophisticated business stories , then translate them into compelling narratives that journalists and their audiences can understand. Your responsibilities will include: Lead, mentor and develop the InnoVision PR team, establishing high standards for strategy, writing, media relations, responsiveness and execution. Develop comprehensive public relations strategies that support each client’s larger marketing and business objectives. Consistently secure earned media coverage in meaningful local, regional and national outlets , including major publications and influential trade and industry media. Pursue both consumer and sophisticated business media, including opportunities within legal, healthcare, financial, investment and business publications. Understand the unique sensitivities involved in representing law firms, medical organizations and companies communicating with investors or raising capital. Identify compelling stories and creative PR opportunities rather than waiting for clients to hand us something newsworthy. Develop and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, producers and other media professionals across multiple industries. Create strong media angles, pitches, press releases, media alerts, talking points and other communications. Lead press conferences, major announcements, media events and other earned-media initiatives. Prepare executives, attorneys, medical professionals and other spokespeople for interviews and media appearances. Work collaboratively with InnoVision’s Account Service, Creative, Digital, Social Media, Media and Production teams to turn PR opportunities into larger integrated campaigns. Establish measurable goals for PR initiatives and hold the department accountable for the quality, relevance and impact of earned coverage, not simply the number of placements. Maintain a strong understanding of the news cycle, emerging media opportunities and changes in how people discover and consume information. Be accountable for the quality, accuracy and timeliness of everything produced by the PR department. What We’re Looking For We are looking for an accomplished PR professional who is ready to lead and grow. You may already be a Director, or you may be an exceptional Senior PR Manager, Account Supervisor or similar professional who is ready for the opportunity to take the next major step in your career. What matters most to us is ability, leadership potential and results. You should have a demonstrated ability to earn meaningful media coverage and understand what it takes to move a story from an idea to an actual placement. Experience with legal PR, healthcare or medical communications, investor relations, financial media or capital-raise communications is highly desirable. Knowledge of crowdfunding and the communications strategies surrounding crowdfunding campaigns is a definite plus. The right person will be a strong leader and mentor, an exceptional writer and communicator, naturally curious, highly organized and persistent. You should be comfortable interacting with senior executives and clients and able to quickly understand businesses and industries that may be entirely different from one another. You should be able to sit across the table from an attorney, physician, entrepreneur, investor or consumer-brand executive, quickly understand their business and determine what story is worth telling, who needs to hear it and how to get it in front of them. Great PR requires both strategy and hustle . You need the judgment to recognize a strong story and the persistence, creativity and relationships to get that story heard. Compensation $70,000–$85,000 annually, depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package and potential future eligibility for InnoVision’s company bonus pool.
