Facilities Maintenance Technician

Summary Statement: Is responsible for performing routine building maintenance tasks and assisting Facilities Department with the performance of building construction, maintenance, and remodeling tasks in one or more fields (carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation, and plumbing, etc.); learns to perform tasks in other fields; and performs other tasks as assigned.

Essential Functions:

1. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
2. Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to installations, replacements, or repairs of fixtures (wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power, and specialty tools.
3. Performs minor plumbing maintenance (replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, trenching, and laying new lines, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, etc.) to provide operable and efficient plumbing capabilities to Department personnel.
4. Performs minor painting, carpentry, and masonry work (preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains, and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks, and handles, etc.) to provide operable and efficient facilities for Department personnel.
5. Installing pipes for high pressure air systems; repairing water, gas, electric and air pipes, and lines in or under floors, walkways, and walls, etc.
6. Assists licensed plumbers, electricians, and HVAC personnel as appropriate.
7. Reconfigures, installs, positions, and remounts modular offices and space (furniture, wall panels, work surfaces, storage bins, lighting, file cabinets, etc.) to accommodate user needs and maximize office space using various hand, power, and specialty tools.
8. Replaces or updates inoperable or old building materials and appliances (motors, belts, pumps, window glass, sinks, doors, smoke alarms, cabinets, shelves, tile, light fixtures, filter systems, etc.) to provide a safe, comfortable working environment for employees using various tools and materials (welding equipment, ladders, power saws, hammers, drills, etc.).

Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing environment that is very clean and professionally maintained. Some areas are air-controlled, and overall conditions support comfortable and safe work. You will spend significant time in the parts room, tool crib, and inventory storage areas, moving between equipment and workstations and standing or walking for extended periods. The environment emphasizes organization, 5S principles, and continuous improvement, with a maintenance team of approximately ten technicians. Dress is generally practical and appropriate for a manufacturing setting, with occasional casual days such as Hawaiian shirt Fridays. Standard office technology, including PCs, email, and Microsoft Office, is used regularly alongside CMMS tools and inventory systems to manage equipment, parts, and documentation.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Smithfield, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
