Junior DevSecOps Engineer

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking an experienced Junior DevSecOps Engineer to work closely with an experienced software development team to build and enhance a platform that supports development within a DevSecOps and GitOps-aligned environment. You will play a key role in enabling the rapid and secure deployment of web applications across multiple cloud platforms.

In this position, you will develop automation for CI/CD pipelines and build cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC). Your work will focus on improving software delivery, strengthening observability, advancing platform engineering capabilities, and embedding security best practices throughout the development lifecycle.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), platform engineering, and security, with a proven ability to drive innovation, scalability, and efficiency across engineering teams. This role also supports the organization's transition from traditional waterfall methodologies to modern Agile, DevSecOps, and cloud-native practices.

Compensation: $34.86 - $40.03/hr.

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

Responsibilities:

• Drive the implementation and optimization of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance, including the development of automated monitoring and alerting solutions.

• Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure infrastructure platforms, enabling seamless integration and deployment through robust CI/CD pipelines.

• Embed security-by-design principles into DevOps workflows by conducting regular assessments and implementing measures to proactively mitigate risk and vulnerabilities.

• Develop and enhance automation tools and scripts to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and support evolving DevOps capabilities.

• Lead incident response efforts and post-mortem analyses to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and strengthen overall system resilience.

• Partner with cross-functional teams to align DevOps strategies with business objectives, effectively communicating progress, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders.

• Stay current on industry trends across DevOps, SRE, platform engineering, and security, while encouraging ongoing professional development within the team.

Skills and Requirements

Required Clearance/Certifications/Education:

• Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance

• Bachelor's or Advanced Degree (Masters / Ph.D.) in STEM or related field.

• Degree in either Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Chemistry.

Must-Haves:

• 3 years of progressive experience (2 years with a Master's degree)

• Proven experience across SRE, platform engineering, and security practices

• Strong expertise in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and container orchestration technologies (e.g., Kubernetes)

• Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub Actions) and infrastructure as code solutions (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)

• Proficiency in scripting languages and automation techniques to streamline operations

• Experience administering both Linux and Windows environments

• Ability to configure, deploy, and maintain containerized systems using tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and/or AWS CloudFormation

• Experience gathering and analyzing system and application metrics to support performance tuning and troubleshooting

• Familiarity with building and deploying software using npm, container registries, package repositories, GitLab, and security tools across the SDLC

• Experience managing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Security as Code (SaC) configurations

• Strong troubleshooting skills across build failures, scripts, networking, and system-level issues

• Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK Stack - Active DoD Secret Security Clearance or higher

• Experience with ICBM weapon systems

• Experience developing solutions for complex business intelligence ecosystems

• Familiarity with secure IT systems and Authority to Operate (ATO) processes aligned with DoD standards (e.g., DoDI 8510.01, RMF, FedRAMP)

• Experience managing container repositories (e.g., Harbor, GitLab) and artifact/package repositories (e.g., Nexus, JFrog)

• Strong understanding of NIST controls and DFARS compliance requirements
