Chief Financial Officer (CFO) (This is a Direct Hire position)

Expanding Construction Company

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join the executive leadership team of a rapidly expanding construction company. This individual will oversee the company’s financial operations, strengthen financial controls, and develop strategies that support continued growth, profitability, and long-term stability.

The ideal candidate will have extensive financial leadership experience within the construction industry and a strong understanding of job costing, project-based accounting, cash-flow management, bonding, banking relationships, and multi-entity operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the company’s overall financial strategy, planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Oversee accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and financial reporting.
• Prepare and present accurate financial statements, forecasts, and performance reports to executive leadership.
• Monitor cash flow, working capital, project profitability, overhead, and company-wide financial performance.
• Establish and maintain strong internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial policies.
• Oversee construction job costing, work-in-progress reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, and project financial analysis.
• Partner with operations and project management teams to identify budget concerns, cost overruns, and opportunities to improve profitability.
• Manage relationships with banks, bonding companies, insurance providers, auditors, tax professionals, and other financial partners.
• Support financing, capital planning, acquisitions, expansions, and other strategic growth initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local financial, tax, and reporting requirements.
• Evaluate and improve financial systems, processes, and reporting tools.
• Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing accounting and finance department.
• Provide financial guidance and recommendations to the CEO and executive leadership team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
• CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting or financial leadership experience.
• Previous experience as a CFO, Controller, Vice President of Finance, or similar senior financial leader.
• Significant experience within the construction, general contracting, specialty contracting, engineering, or related industry.
• Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, revenue recognition, and project-based financial management.
• Experience managing multiple entities, divisions, locations, or business lines is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience supporting a growing organization and implementing scalable financial processes.
• Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• High level of integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and accountability.
• Proficiency with accounting software, financial reporting systems, and Microsoft Excel.
