Position Details Position Type: Middle School Teaching / Special Education Teacher Date Posted: 4/29/2026 Location: Carson Valley Middle School Date Available: 08/01/2026 Job Overview Special Education Classroom Teacher reports to the Site Administrator, Inclusive Education Department. The role is a minimum 186‑day/year position on the Nevada State Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) salary schedule ($50,033 – $90,212). The teacher receives full Nevada workplace benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance and is exempt from FLSA. Responsibilities Plan curriculum, prepare lessons, and arrange materials/equipment based on Individual Education Plans (IEPs), meeting all state and federal IEP mandates. Instruct students in academic, affective, behavioral, prevocational/vocational, and life‑skills areas as outlined by the IEP. Collaborate with regular‑and‑special‑education specialists, parents, and community agencies to deliver services in the Least Restrictive Environment. Administer, interpret, and report on ability and achievement assessments. Observe, evaluate, and maintain detailed student progress records and reports. Support the continuous improvement of special‑education programs through training and piloting of new initiatives. Chair and oversee IEP meetings, ensuring implementation of approved plans. Configure continuum of services for students based on documented needs. Lead assigned classes, guiding learning toward district curriculum goals and communicating clear objectives to students. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to student maturity and needs. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media tailored to each student’s physical and cognitive limitations. Identify differences in student needs, abilities, and interests, providing differentiated instruction. Collect, analyze, and report data for state and district performance reports. Provide transition assessments, planning, and agency coordination for students requiring specialized support. Administer group standardized and proficiency tests per district testing programs and IEP requirements. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records in compliance with law and district policy. Take all necessary precautions to protect students, maintain equipment, and ensure safety. Develop and enforce a code of conduct and classroom behavior rules, applied fairly and consistently. Be available to students and parents for education‑related matters during the scheduled workday when required. Participate in professional development activities, including courses, readings, in‑service training, and conferences. Establish two‑way communication with parents, students, and staff in an honest, positive, and constructive manner. Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides, volunteers, and student teachers, providing written evaluations as needed. Supervise students during out‑of‑classroom activities on campus and sponsor student activities appropriate to grade level. Attend building and district meetings, collaborate on curriculum development, and serve on committees. Operate a microcomputer and related educational technologies (LCD projector, SmartBoard, iPads/tablets). Communicate enthusiasm, excitement, and a strong commitment to the teaching profession. Schedule activities, meetings, and events; gather, collate, and classify data; and analyze data using appropriate methods. Work effectively with a diverse group of individuals and exercise confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy. Follow established policies and procedures, remain open to ideas, and contribute to a positive team spirit. Multi‑task and manage student, staff, and public interactions efficiently. Solve practical problems and handle situational variables where limited standardization exists. Communicate clearly and accurately with students, teachers, parents, and community members. Meet deadlines, exercise sound judgment, manage stress, and maintain regular attendance and punctuality. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution with major coursework in education or a related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid Nevada Teaching Certificate with the following endorsements: Exceptional Pupil Education Endorsement in appropriate areas. Special Education Generalist Endorsement. Physical and mental/intellectual capabilities, including: Strength, dexterity, coordination, and vision for prolonged keyboard and video terminal use. Stamina to bend, stoop, sit, and stand for extended periods; ability to lift files and materials up to 50‑80 pounds repetitively. Manual dexterity to operate educational technology (LCD projector, SmartBoard, iPads/tablets). Effective hearing and speech for in‑person or telephone communication. Experience in designing and delivering individualized instruction for students with disabilities, including IEP development and implementation. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and maintain detailed student progress documentation. Strong classroom management skills and competence in creating supportive learning environments. Work Conditions and Safety The teacher works in an office/classroom setting with environmental exposure ranging from mild/moderate to extreme climates, moderate to very loud noise levels, and crowded situations. Hazards include classroom furniture, playground equipment, communicable diseases, chemicals, and power/hand‑operated equipment. The position is safety sensitive.
