Position Overview

Becker Law Group is seeking an experienced Plaintiff Trial Attorney to join our growing litigation team and take a leading role in preparing and trying significant civil cases.

We are looking for a courtroom-focused attorney with meaningful plaintiff-side litigation experience, strong advocacy skills and the ability to take ownership of cases as they move toward trial. The ideal candidate is comfortable developing case strategy, taking and defending key depositions, examining witnesses, arguing motions and presenting compelling cases to judges and juries.

This is an opportunity for an attorney who wants to try cases, not simply manage them.

The Trial Attorney will work closely with senior attorneys, clients, experts, co-counsel and litigation support teams on complex, high-impact matters involving serious injuries, mass torts, environmental disasters, wildfires, toxic exposures, sexual abuse and other significant civil claims.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as lead or key trial counsel in plaintiff-side civil litigation matters
• Develop cases from initial investigation through discovery, mediation, trial and resolution
• Create and execute litigation and trial strategy
• Take and defend fact, expert and corporate representative depositions
• Prepare and argue substantive motions and other contested matters
• Prepare clients, experts and witnesses for deposition and trial testimony
• Conduct direct and cross-examinations of witnesses
• Develop opening statements, closing arguments and overall trial themes
• Work closely with medical, scientific, environmental, economic and other expert witnesses
• Prepare exhibits, demonstratives and other materials for hearings and trials
• Represent clients at mediations, settlement conferences, hearings and trials
• Negotiate significant settlements with defense counsel, insurers, corporations, institutions and governmental entities
• Evaluate liability, causation, damages and potential case value
• Mentor and provide strategic direction to junior attorneys, paralegals and litigation support staff
• Maintain close communication with clients throughout litigation and trial preparation
• Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, ethics and client advocacy

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
• Minimum 5-10 years of trial experience
• Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California
• Active membership in ABOTA is a plus
• Significant civil litigation experience, preferably representing plaintiffs
• Demonstrated courtroom and trial experience
• Experience serving as lead or substantial trial counsel is a must
• Strong deposition experience, including expert and key witness depositions
• Experience arguing substantive motions and handling contested hearings
• Experience with jury trials is a must
• Experience in personal injury, mass tort, environmental, wildfire, toxic exposure, sexual abuse, premises liability, product liability or other complex civil litigation is a must
• Exceptional oral advocacy, legal writing, research and analytical skills
• Ability to develop persuasive case narratives and communicate complex issues clearly to judges and juries
• Ability to independently manage significant cases and competing deadlines
• Excellent judgment, preparation and attention to detail
• Strong interpersonal skills and an empathetic, client-centered approach
• Spanish-language proficiency is a plus but not required

Compensation and Benefits

Becker Law Group offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, qualifications and demonstrated trial performance. This position’s base salary is starting at $350,000+ and includes substantial bonuses. Benefits and additional compensation opportunities will be discussed during the interview process.
