Medical Assistant We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team at UCHC. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality healthcare services to our patients while ensuring efficient clinic operations. General Accountabilities Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document all information in the patient's chart. Ensure all related reports, labs and information is filled out and available in patients’ medical records prior to their appointment. Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; keeping patient information confidential. Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations; assist physician and physician assistant in exam rooms. Disinfect, clean treatment rooms following patient examinations; maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations. Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required; properly dispose of contaminated supplies. Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, verifying receipt. Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, etc.). Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient, physician, and pharmacy calls. Draw blood, remove sutures, change dressings. Interview patients to obtain their medical history. Record patient medical history, vital statistics, and test results in patient medical files. Perform routine screening tests, such as height and weight measurements and blood pressure checks. Requirements Education: High School Diploma or equivalent substitute. Experience: 2 years; combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience. Required Certifications and/or Licenses: BLS certification (AHA) required; certification as a medical assistant (CMA) preferred. Skills: Experience with EMR, MS Word, Excel, MS Outlook. Skills Medication and immunization administration (per scope). Assisting with examinations and minor procedures. Infection control and sterilization techniques. Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) proficiency. Accurate clinical documentation. Appointment scheduling and patient flow coordination. Insurance verification and basic billing knowledge. Knowledge of medical terminology. HIPAA and OSHA compliance. Patient education and discharge instructions. Inventory management and supply stocking. Strong communication skills. Customer service and professionalism. Time management and multitasking. Team collaboration and adaptability. Language Bilingual – English/Spanish (required). Physical Requirements Physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 25 lb limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved. The ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time is required. Flexibility to work in multiple locations throughout the week.
