This role serves as a working Lead Service Technician responsible for overseeing the Get Ready process flow and refurbishment activities for modular buildings and temporary space solutions. You will lead by example on the shop floor, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency while performing hands-on repair and maintenance tasks. The position offers a clear growth path into a production supervisor role for individuals who excel in leading teams, meeting production goals, and maintaining high standards of workmanship.

Responsibilities

• Act in full compliance with all safety, transportation, and environmental policies and promote a strong safety culture throughout the workday.
• Lead and actively promote health and safety by creating a safer workplace and conducting safety walks to identify and correct hazards.
• Attend safety meetings and ensure safety protocols are communicated and followed by the team.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area to support efficient production and high-quality output.
• Ensure trailers and modular units are ready for scheduled delivery dates with high first-time quality and within established accuracy parameters of approximately +/- 10%.
• Perform repairs and modifications on modular buildings, including framing and finish carpentry, electrical work, flooring, plumbing, painting, running gear, and other aspects of modular building repair.
• Maintain proper inventory levels of equipment, tools, and materials required to complete daily service and production tasks.
• Perform service-related tasks in the yard as requested by branch leadership, including check-in and check-out inspections of off-rented buildings.
• Physically inspect off-rented buildings to determine the repair scope of work and identify damages for customer invoicing.
• Create floor plan drawings as needed to support customer requirements and internal planning.
• Relocate fleet units within the branch lot to optimize yard organization and support production flow.
• Delegate daily tasks to team members to keep production on track and ensure workloads are balanced.
• Update production boards with current status of work orders and unit readiness to maintain clear visibility of progress.
• Collaborate closely with Production Supervisors and branch leadership to escalate issues promptly and support quick resolution.
• Use basic computer systems and software to perform data entry, update work orders, and support production and service documentation.
• Communicate effectively with customers, sales personnel, contractors, shop staff, and employees at various branch locations to coordinate work and resolve issues.
• Provide coaching and guidance to other technicians on proper safety procedures and quality standards.
• Support installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities related to modular units and associated systems.
• Assist with customer support and service-related inquiries as needed, ensuring a professional and responsive experience.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of relevant experience in a construction, maintenance, service, or similar technical role.
• Demonstrated ability to delegate tasks effectively to keep production on schedule.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with customers, sales teams, contractors, shop personnel, and branch employees.
• Ability to conduct safety walks and coach other employees on proper safety protocols.
• Capability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and safety standards.
• Basic computer knowledge, including data entry and use of standard software tools.
• Carpentry knowledge and hands-on experience with framing and finish work.
• Experience performing general service and maintenance tasks on buildings, equipment, or related assets.
• Ability to perform physical inspections of units and accurately determine scope of repairs and damages.
• Organizational skills to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work area.
• Attention to detail to ensure high first-time quality on unit preparation and repairs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Electrical experience, including basic repairs and troubleshooting, is a plus.
• Plumbing experience related to building systems or modular units is a plus.
• HVAC experience, including installation, maintenance, or repair, is a plus.
• Welding experience is a plus.
• Mechanical aptitude and experience working with construction or mechanical systems.
• Experience in production environments, including updating production boards and tracking work orders.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar productivity tools for data entry and reporting.
• Experience with installation, customer support, or call center environments is beneficial.
• Experience in construction, service, or maintenance of modular buildings, trailers, or similar structures.
• Ability to troubleshoot issues in the field and in the yard and propose practical solutions.
• Comfort working with multiple stakeholders and coordinating across branches or locations.
• Interest in career growth into a production supervisor or leadership role.

Work Environment

This position is based in a branch and yard environment in Fremont, CA, working primarily on modular buildings, trailers, and temporary space solutions. Typical hours are approximately 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., supporting a structured daytime schedule. You will work in a hands-on, production-focused setting that combines indoor shop work and outdoor yard activities, including inspections, repairs, and unit movements. The environment is collaborative and described as a family-like workplace, where you lead service technicians and work closely with a branch manager and production supervisor. You will regularly use tools, equipment, and materials related to construction, carpentry, mechanical systems, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and welding, as well as computers for data entry, work order updates, and production tracking. Safety is a core focus, with frequent safety meetings, safety walks, and adherence to established safety, transportation, and environmental policies. Dress typically aligns with a production and yard setting, requiring appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment (PPE) suited to construction and maintenance activities

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Fremont, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
