Progressive Computer Systems
Business Development Representative
About Progressive Computer Systems:
Since 1987, Progressive Computer Systems has helped businesses across the Triangle and Triad succeed with smarter technology. Built on integrity, strong relationships, and exceptional customer care, we've earned our reputation by delivering proactive IT strategy, certified expertise, and dependable support.
We're a well-established company with deep local roots and a relationship-driven culture. Our founders remain actively involved in the business, and we believe in doing things the right way - investing in our people, supporting our clients, and staying connected to the communities we serve.
If you're looking for a company that values professionalism, momentum, and meaningful relationships, Progressive may be the right fit for you.
About the Role:
We're looking for a true business development hunter - someone who enjoys opening doors, creating opportunities, building relationships, and turning conversations into long-term clients.
This is not a sit-back-and-wait-for-leads kind of role. It's for someone who wants to be out in the market meeting people, building referral networks, attending events, getting involved in the community, and creating new opportunities through hustle, strategy, and personality.
As our Business Development Representative, you'll focus on generating net-new business across targeted industries and markets in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area. You'll identify the right organizations, connect with decision-makers, uncover business needs, and help move opportunities through the sales process.
You'll also be a visible representative of Progressive in the community - someone who enjoys showing up, following up, and becoming known as a trusted local resource.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role means:
- Building a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities
- Putting yourself out there through intentional, consistent outreach
- Winning new client relationships
- Expanding Progressive's presence in the local business community
- Creating strategic partnerships and referral sources
- Driving revenue growth through proactive prospecting and relationship-building
If you're energized by prospecting, networking, and getting in front of people, this role gives you the opportunity to make a real impact.
Key Responsibilities
New Business Development:
- Identify and pursue prospective clients, target accounts, and decision-makers aligned with our ideal customer profile
- Drive outbound prospecting through phone calls, email, LinkedIn, networking, referrals, and other approved outreach strategies
- Conduct strategic in-person drop-bys to introduce Progressive, start conversations, and create new opportunities
- Schedule and lead discovery conversations to understand business challenges, growth goals, compliance needs, and technology pain points
- Build and manage a healthy pipeline from first outreach through proposal, negotiation, and close
- Clearly communicate Progressive's value proposition and how our services support business outcomes
Community & Relationship Building:
- Represent Progressive at trade shows, chamber events, business associations, networking groups, tech events, and community functions
- Build centers of influence, referral partnerships, and local brand visibility
- Develop authentic relationships with business leaders, partners, and community contacts
- Help strengthen Progressive's reputation as a trusted and engaged local business partner
- Identify opportunities to increase awareness, generate introductions, and create meaningful market connections
Sales Process & Collaboration:
- Qualify opportunities based on business need, fit, timing, budget, and decision-making process
- Maintain strong follow-up and momentum with prospects throughout the sales cycle
- Document prospect activity, notes, and next steps in ConnectWise CRM or other designated systems
- Partner with leadership, marketing, and technical teams to shape messaging and develop solutions for prospective clients
- Support a smooth handoff to service teams after the sale to help ensure a positive client experience
Strategic Contribution:
- Track and report on outreach activity, meetings, qualified opportunities, and pipeline contribution
- Share market feedback, prospect objections, and competitive insights with leadership and marketing
- Help refine outreach strategies, messaging, and business development processes
- Stay informed on trends in IT, cybersecurity, healthcare, compliance, and other relevant industries
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist with webinars, lunch-and-learns, trade shows, and other business development initiatives
- Contribute ideas to improve prospecting, lead qualification, CRM usage, and follow-up consistency
- Develop a strong working knowledge of Progressive's service offerings and how they support business strategy
- Complete assigned training related to company services, cybersecurity, compliance, CRM, and sales processes
- Attend routine sales, pipeline, marketing, and company meetings
- Enter time and business development activity in designated systems
What We're Looking For:
We're looking for someone who is:
- A self-starter who thrives in a hunter-style sales role
- Comfortable with outbound prospecting and creating opportunities from the ground up
- Energized by networking, community involvement, and meeting new people
- Confident starting conversations with business owners and decision-makers
- Skilled at building trust, uncovering needs, and moving opportunities forward
- Organized, disciplined, and consistent with follow-up and CRM activity
- Professional, ethical, and motivated to win
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in B2B sales or business development
- Strong prospecting, pipeline-building, and relationship-development skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to conduct effective discovery, handle objections, and advance opportunities
- Experience using CRM and sales productivity tools
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with leadership and technical teams
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience
Why This Role Is Exciting:
- This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to do more than just sell.
- If you enjoy being visible in the market, becoming part of the local business community, building genuine relationships, and driving long-term growth, this role gives you the platform to do it. You'll have the support of a respected local company, the credibility of a long-standing brand, and the opportunity to make a real impact on our growth.
- If you're the kind of person who likes to shake hands, open doors, and build something meaningful, we'd love to meet you.
Benefits include:
- Competitive benefits package
- Health insurance
- Paid time off
- Paid holidays
- Retirement plan options
- Ongoing training and professional development opportunities
- A supportive team culture
- Focus on work-life balance
- Opportunities for long-term growth and success
- Hybrid work environment
