CobbFendley is seeking an experienced Telecommunications Field Technician in our Albuquerque, New Mexico office.

EXPERIENCE + KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITY (KSA) Emerging // Basic understanding and minimal practical experience; requires guidance and supervision. No experience is required.

• Knowledge of field operations, methods, procedures, safety requirements, and environmental considerations associated with civil infrastructure work in outdoor settings.
• Skills include use of industry-standard tools, equipment, and computer software to perform field tasks, document work, and communicate effectively.
• Ability to safely operate required equipment, travel locally, regionally, and interstate, with occasional overnight stays, and perform work in varying weather, terrain, and environmental conditions.

RESPONSIBILITIES // Ultimately, the Field Technician is responsible for the success of field operations to support project completion.

1. General //
   1. Perform assigned tasks with supervision and follow established procedures.
   2. Develop foundational technical and field skills.
   3. May operate a variety of vehicles, including large vehicles with or without attached trailers, as needed to support specific operational tasks, and perform routine maintenance to ensure safe and efficient use.
   4. May cross train to perform other field services (Telecommunications, Survey, SUE).

2. Safety + Compliance //

1. Learn and comply with all basic safety procedures: Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Emergency Action Plans (EAP), and Project Safety Plans (PSP) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures.
2. Observe and follow QA/QC processes under supervision.
3. Identifying and evaluating potential hazards in the work environment.
4. Properly selecting and using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
5. Develop general understanding of Traffic Control Plans (TCP).
6. Begin familiarization with Federal, State, and local codes, regulations, and standards governing projects in their respective field.

3. Technical //

1. Locate aerial, buried, and underground utilities using approved non-destructive locating methods (e.g., visual inspection, electronic locating equipment).
2. Identify building utility entrance and exit points, including demarcation locations.
3. Distinguish between types of telecommunications cabling (coaxial, fiber optic, copper) and related equipment installed on utility poles.
4. Identify and document telephone poles, strand, and pole-mounted attachments in the field.
5. Measure and identify duct banks, handholes, manholes, and riser conduits.
6. Assist with safe access to and servicing of telecommunications manholes and underground structures in accordance with safety procedures.
7. Document collected data in accordance with company and CAD/GIS standards.
8. Read and interpret basic utility maps, prints, and as-built drawings.

PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS + ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

Tasks are divided between indoor and outdoor settings, with approximately 80% of duties performed in outdoor environments and 20% in indoor office or warehouse spaces.

• Cognitive Requirements. Selective attention, oral comprehension, oral expression, speech recognition, speech clarity, written comprehension, written expression, problem sensitivity, deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, number facility, information ordering, category flexibility, flexibility of closure, fluency of ideas, and originality. Must remain alert and responsive while working in lane closure zones adjacent to high-traffic and dynamic areas.
• Physical Abilities. Includes hand-eye coordination, steadiness, upper and lower body strength, control precision, stamina, multi-limb coordination, static strength, manual dexterity, and depth perception. Extended periods of sitting and standing in an upright position at a workstation or job site. Movement within the office and job sites, including navigating between floors, workstations, high-traffic areas, and various walking surfaces. Forward flexion, extension, or lateral rotation of the head and neck while using multiple computer screens. Repetitive finger movements for operating a computer mouse and typing on a keyboard. Includes activities such as reaching, bending, stooping, carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling, and handling. Extending hands and arms in various directions, such as overhead, below the waist, forward, or laterally. Raising or lowering objects from one level to another and transporting objects by holding them in the hands, arms, or over the shoulder. Capable of lifting, carrying, and balancing equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds in various environments, including remote, rural, or urban settings. Ability to walk long distances (3+ miles) and climb on uneven surfaces.
• Office Conditions. Includes extensive use of electronic devices such as computers, printers, copiers, scanners, plotters, and telephones. Additionally, tasks may involve the use of cutting tools and equipment like rotary paper cutters and plotting devices.
• Outdoor Conditions. Includes walking and climbing on uneven surfaces, confined spaces, and exposure to extreme weather conditions (heat and freezing temperatures). Potential exposure to high noise levels and various allergens, including poison ivy, sumac, dust, pollen, and cedar. Potential exposure to wildlife hazards such as animals, insects, and plants. Ability to move effectively in and around construction sites, traffic work zones, and other outdoor assignments.
• Safety and Equipment Use. Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, along with use of pneumatic, hand and power tools.
• Driving and Vehicle Use. May involve driving large pick-up trucks with attached trailers, potentially operating watercraft, and for extended periods of time.

EXPECTED WORK HOURS

• This is a full-time position, generally 40 hours per week, however, hours may fluctuate depending on department needs including the use of overtime.
• CobbFendley’s standard operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM CST. Generally, employees receive a 1-hour unpaid lunch break free of duty. Please note, operating hours and lunch hours may differ based on project workload, primarily for field staff.

WORK LOCATION FLEXIBILTY

• This position requires in-person work and is ineligible for remote work.
