YOUTH PROGRAM MAKER'S LAB SPECIALIST (Part-Time)

Description Maker’s Lab Specialist assists elementary, middle and high school youth in using the lab’s computers, resources and other technology. The specialist handles the care, inventory, checkout of equipment, and acts as a desk attendant. Job Type: Part‑time Schedule: 2:00 p‑m – 7:00 p‑m; Monday – Friday (varies by program needs). Reports to: Center Director Location: CYC Sidney Epstein Center, 3415 W. 13th Pl, Chicago, IL Compensation: $18 – $20 per hour Responsibilities Create and maintain a supportive environment that fosters skill and adolescent development based on youth interests and inter‑generational collaboration. Prepare Maker Space: set up, clean up, and inventory CYC equipment. Staff the Maker Space to engage with youth, recruit and promote workshops and events, act as a mentor and guide, and check out equipment. Operate and inventory a variety of equipment including desktop and laptop computers (PCs), printers, cameras, 3‑D printers, and vinyl cutters. Instruct or assist in teaching classes on technology subjects such as digital media, the maker movement, or STEAM. Provide participants with regular opportunities to showcase work locally, nationally, and globally. Ensure youth participants understand STEAM career paths and options. Identify and encourage youth with passion for STEAM, offering or referring them to special program opportunities. Requirements Associate’s degree in a relevant field with three years of experience (Bachelor’s degree is a plus). Job experience and/or coursework in computer technology, digital media, multimedia, a STEM discipline, hardware or software applications, troubleshooting, internet research, teaching or training. Proven knowledge of and ability to use the technology associated with the Maker Space program. Skills in technology, art, craft, engineering, music, science, green design, or a commitment to quickly develop such skills. Knowledge in maintaining digital fabrication equipment (e.g., 3‑D printers, laser cutters, CNC routers). Experience teaching in an educational or youth development setting, specifically through project‑based learning. Bilingual language abilities are a plus. Benefits This role is not benefits eligible.
