Pediatric Or Family Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant

The Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant is a Board-Certified advanced practitioner who is trained to provide care, coordination, and management of the pediatric orthopedic patient in the outpatient, peri-operative, and intra-operative settings. The NP/PA will work in primary 1:1 model in collaboration with orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Emily Dodwell, to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients in the ambulatory setting and to provide support in the surgical setting as needed. The NP/PA will practice both autonomously and in concert with other medical professionals to screen and optimize the care for patients who are seeking both surgical and non-surgical orthopedic care. Surgical skills to assist in the operating room is welcome but not required. The NP/PA will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to manage conditions ranging in complexity. The NP/PA will have prescriptive privileges for both medicinal and therapeutic age-related modalities. The NP/PA will also serve as a resource, mentor, and educator for the pediatric patient, their family and other healthcare members. The NP/PA may also be expected to provide cross coverage for pediatric attendings, participate in departmental development, or research activities conducted in collaboration with other pediatric health care team members as needed.

Nurse Practitioner:

• Obtains/Maintains NP licenses in New York
• PNP or FNP, pediatric experience preferred
• Obtains/Maintains board certification as a NP in specialty area of practice
• BLS, PALS, ACLS via American Heart Association
• DEA certification
• RNFA, preferred

Physician Assistant:

• Obtains/Maintains PA license in New York
• Obtains/Maintains current NCCPA certification
• BLS, PALS, ACLS via American Heart Association
• DEA certification

• Demonstrates commitment to professional growth & development in medical and nursing practice. Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in nursing; academic training as nurse practitioner.

PA

• Graduate of CAAHEP accredited Physician Assistant Training Program.

Office Accountabilities:

Demonstrates Clinical Proficiency Possesses a basic understanding of anatomy, physiology and disease process related to orthopedic injury.

Demonstrates Clinical Proficiency Performs a directed comprehensive history and physical examination.

Demonstrates Clinical Proficiency Develops a differential diagnosis, and treatment plan appropriate to the patient injury and clinical presentation.

Demonstrates Clinical Proficiency Orders studies to ensure a comprehensive and appropriate workup for the involved patient's injury or disease.

Demonstrates Clinical Proficiency Uses sound judgment when acting independently or escalating more complex issues to the Attending physician.

Demonstrates Clinical Proficiency Identifies, responds to and triages emergent issues, escalates appropriately and ensures follow-up.

Demonstrates Clinical Proficiency Performs outpatient procedures including but not limited to intra-articular injections and aspirations consistent with their DOP at the direction of the Supervising MD.
