MARINE PATROL OFFICER (Job ID: 52761) Division of State Police - Marine Patrol 31 Dock Road 31 Dock Road, Gilford NH 03249 SEASONAL – PART-TIME - HIRING MULTIPLE CANDIDATES STATEWIDE $23.93/hour - $31.71/hour Applications accepted through Tuesday, December 29, 2026. Test dates are as follows: Saturday, October 3, 2026 Tuesday, November 3, 2026 Tuesday, January 5, 2026 The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of State Police - Marine Patrol, has multiple part-time seasonal vacancies for Marine Patrol Officers state-wide. SUMMARY: Promotes public safety, protects life and property, and enforces all relevant state and boating laws (pursuant to RSA 270:12-a), by performing law enforcement duties on inland and coastal waterways. Responsibilities include maintaining law and order, responding to emergencies, investigating incidents, apprehending offenders, and providing security along New Hampshire's seacoast and ports. YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent credential License/Certification: Valid driver’s license Other Requirements: 1. Age/Citizenship: Must be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen on date of examination 2. Eyesight and Hearing: Must have at least 20/100 in each eye uncorrected and corrected to 20/40 (near vision) and 20/30 (distant vision) in each eye and have normal uncorrected depth and color perception; must possess normal hearing sufficient to enable performance of essential job functions. 3. Examinations: a. Must successfully participate in a physical agility test designed to measure ability to perform essential job functions which are physically demanding tasks encountered in job performance. b. Must pass a 50-yard free style swim test or have a current certificate of swimming ability containing this requirement. c. Must successfully participate in a written examination and structured interviews. d. After conditional offers of appointment have been made, candidates will undergo comprehensive background investigations, polygraph examinations and psychological examinations. e. Must pass a comprehensive medical examination provided at the State’s expense. The physician administering medical examinations will be selected by the NH Division of State Police. No physical conditions can exist prohibiting appointees from performing the duties and responsibilities of the Marine Patrol Officer position. f. All candidates will be subject to unannounced drug testing at any point during the selection process. Candidates who do not have a record free of serious offenses will be ineligible for appointment. 4. Must be willing to accept employment anywhere in the State of New Hampshire Trainee Option: Not applicable PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: None AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS: Must obtain NH part-time police officer certification within the time frame established by the NH Police Standards and Training Council and maintain throughout employment Must obtain a valid NH Boating Education Certificate by completion of initial field training Must obtain certification in emergency first aid by completion of initial field training and maintain throughout employment CAREER ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES: In-Band Advancement Available: No Criteria: Broad Group Level Advancement Available: No Criteria: RESPONSIBILITIES: Patrols inland and coastal waters to enforce boating laws, navigation rules, and applicable state criminal statutes. Maintains visibility as a deterrent and responds proactively to unsafe or unlawful behavior on the water. Conducts safety inspections of private and commercial vessels to ensure compliance with applicable equipment, registration, and operational standards. Inspects and verifies proper placement and functioning of navigational aids such as spar buoys and flashing beacons. Reports discrepancies and coordinates with appropriate agencies for correction. Responds to boating accidents, criminal activity, and public service calls. Investigates complaints and documents findings in a thorough and professional manner. Effects lawful arrests, including the use of physical force or restraint when necessary. Employs approved defensive tactics, including verbal de-escalation, in accordance with training and departmental policy. Operates patrol vessels under varied and adverse conditions (day or night) including poor weather, high-speed pursuits, congested waterways, and emergency situations. Prepares detailed incident and investigative reports, citations, affidavits, warrants, and diagrams. Ensures documentation meets legal and procedural standards and is suitable for use in court. Responds to water-based emergencies including distress calls, medical incidents, and search-and-rescue operations. Administers first aid and coordinates with emergency services as necessary. Prosecutes criminal cases in District Court and testifies as a witness when necessary. Provides crowd and traffic control during major waterborne events. Assists with safety planning and implementation for public gatherings and special marine operations.
