$87k - $117.5kLoyola Marymount University
The Loyola Immigrant Justice Clinic (LIJC) at Loyola Law School seeks a Clinical Supervising Attorney to help lead and expand our innovative immigration legal services and student training programs, with a particular focus on building out our Path2Paper Project, an initiative dedicated to supporting DACA recipients and other long-term undocumented youth in pursuing employment-based and business-immigration pathways. The attorney will also play a key role in developing a Business Immigration Practicum designed to train law students in employment-based immigration while providing direct services to impacted community members. This full-time position is based in Los Angeles and requires on-site work at both Loyola Law School and LIJC’s community-based offices. Occasional travel to support community engagement and professional development may be required. The position has a one-year term and is benefits-eligible. The Loyola Immigrant Justice Clinic (LIJC) is a community-based collaboration of Loyola Law School Los Angeles, Loyola Marymount University, Homeboy Industries Inc., and Dolores Mission Church. LIJC’s dual-pronged mission is to advance the rights of the low-income immigrant population in Los Angeles through direct legal services, education, and community empowerment, while teaching law students effective immigrants’ rights lawyering skills in a real-world setting. LIJC focuses on providing representation to individuals who are unable to obtain immigration legal services elsewhere who reside in the Los Angeles and surrounding area. Through our Path2Paper initiative and our longstanding work in Los Angeles, we aim to expand pathways to stability for DACA recipients and other underserved immigrants. Responsibilities Developing and leading the Path2Paper Project, including developing an intake system focused on employment-based and business-immigration options for DACA recipients and other Dreamers. Working in partnership with the Cornell Immigration Clinic. Developing a pro bono network, as a referrals and placement resource after LIJC identifies individuals eligible for employment-based immigration relief. Designing and launching a Business Immigration Practicum, with curriculum and casework geared toward training law students in business-immigration practice (e.g., H-1B, O-1, PERM, and other employment-based categories). Supervising student teams, providing feedback, mentorship, and training on casework, community advocacy, and professional development, based on established clinical pedagogy that encourages students to deliver client-centered, culturally competent legal representation through the deliberative mentorship of supervising clinical attorneys. Managing ongoing immigration matters, including employment-based, humanitarian, and family-based petitions before USCIS and other agencies. Engaging in community-based legal education, including workshops, outreach, and collaboration with local partners serving DACA recipients and immigrant youth. Co-teaching clinic seminar courses, including orientation sessions and selected class meetings focused on business-immigration law and community-lawyering practice. Supporting LIJC program administration, including grant reporting, strategic planning, and communications related to Path2Paper and the new practicum. Maintaining current expertise in business-immigration law, humanitarian pathways, and emerging immigration policy developments. Collaborating closely with LIJC’s community partners, including organizations in Los Angeles and across our binational advocacy network. Performing grant management responsibilities, as required by funder. Performing other related duties as assigned or requested. Requisite Qualifications Juris Doctor Degree and member in good standing with the California State Bar for at least two years. A minimum of five years’ experience practicing immigration law, including knowledge of business-immigration or employment-based casework (relevant clinical experience will also be considered). Experience with humanitarian immigration applications and/or employment-based categories such as H-1B, O-1, and PERM. Demonstrated ability to teach, mentor, supervise, and train students in a clinical or experiential learning environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong lawyering skills, and sound professional judgement. Commitment to serving DACA recipients, mixed-status families, and underserved immigrant communities, consistent with LIJC’s mission. Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects and work independently. Demonstrated computer competency and knowledgeable of Microsoft Office systems. Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse, community-centered team.
