General Laborer

The General Laborer provides essential support to construction operations by performing non-skilled labor tasks that enable safe, efficient, and continuous execution of field activities. This role works under direct supervision and does not perform independent skilled trade work. The position serves as a foundational entry point for individuals seeking to develop skills for advancement into ironworking or other skilled trades. Role and Responsibilities Execute assigned tasks under the direct supervision of a Foreman or designated lead Perform fire watch, hole watch, and spotter duties to support safe work operations Transport, stage, and organize materials, tools, and equipment across the jobsite Maintain jobsite cleanliness, including debris removal and general housekeeping Assist skilled trades (e.g., Ironworkers) with basic support tasks as directed Support drilling operations (e.g., operating vacuum systems, material handling) Set up, maintain, and remove barricades and safety controls Deliver tools, hardware, and materials to work areas as needed Identify and report safety hazards, material shortages, and site constraints Follow all safety procedures, site rules, and company policies Participate in safety meetings, pre-task planning, and required training Perform other general labor duties as assigned to support project needs Qualifications and Experience High school diploma or GED preferred Ability to perform physical labor in a construction environment Ability to follow direction and work under supervision Preferred Prior construction or general labor experience Interest in developing skills in a skilled trade (e.g., ironworking) Skills Ability to follow instructions and execute assigned tasks reliably Strong work ethic and dependability Basic understanding of construction safety practices Ability to organize materials and maintain a clean work environment Effective communication with supervisors and team members Core Competencies Safety Awareness Reliability & Attendance Teamwork Work Ethic Adaptability Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 10–12 hours per shift) Ability to perform continuous physical labor, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials weighing 30–50 pounds regularly Ability to occasionally lift heavier materials with assistance or mechanical support Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, squat, and perform repetitive manual tasks throughout the workday Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas as required Ability to work in confined spaces and active construction zones Ability to use hands and arms for material handling, tool support, and general labor tasks Ability to maintain situational awareness to safely perform spotting, fire watch, and hazard monitoring duties Ability to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and other site-specific equipment Ability to work in outdoor and industrial environments, including exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, and weather conditions Ability to maintain focus, follow direction, and safely perform tasks in a fast-paced and safety-sensitive environment Safety Sensitive Position This position is designated as safety-sensitive in accordance with Arizona law (A.R.S. 23-493(9)). Employees in this role perform work in active construction environments where impaired performance could result in injury to themselves or others. Responsibilities such as fire watch, hole watch, spotting, and material handling require constant awareness of surroundings and adherence to safety protocols. Employees must be able to perform all essential job functions without impairment from substances that could affect safety, alertness, coordination, or judgment. Maintaining situational awareness and following all safety procedures is required at all times. General Laborers perform support-based work in active construction environments requiring sustained physical effort, attention to safety, and responsiveness to direction. Essential Job Functions Include Performing material handling, transport, and staging of tools, equipment, and construction materials Supporting jobsite safety through fire watch, hole watch, and spotter responsibilities Assisting skilled trades (e.g., Ironworkers) with non-skilled, support tasks only, under direct supervision Maintaining jobsite cleanliness and organization, including debris removal and housekeeping Setting up, maintaining, and removing barricades and safety controls Supporting drilling and basic operations (e.g., vacuum support, positioning assistance) Performing repetitive physical tasks, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching Using basic hand tools and equipment as directed Following verbal and written instructions from supervisors and site leadership Identifying hazards and reporting unsafe conditions, material needs, or site constraints Maintaining situational awareness in dynamic, high-traffic construction environments Supporting overall crew productivity while adhering to safety and quality standards Work is performed in outdoor and industrial environments, with exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, vibration, and weather conditions.
