Professional Civil EngineerNature of Work: Professional Civil Engineer working in the planning design, construction, inspection and maintenance of a variety of public works projects and facilities.Illustrative Examples of Essential DutiesResponsible for the design and development of construction plans and specifications for roads, bridges, water supply systems, street lights, street parking, sanitary sewer systems, stormwater management systems, and other public works facilities.Reviews field surveys to develop information required for design and construction of public works projectsReviews plans for public works projects for compliance with standardsReviews engineering reports, basis of design reports, and regulatory compliance filings; ensures that reports are detailed, methodical, and provide clear logic for engineering designs and decisionsMakes recommendations for upgrades and improvements to city facilitiesSupervises the preparation of cost estimates for public works projectsDevelops engineering proceduresSupervises the inspection of various public works construction projectsPerforms related work as requiredPerforms the duties of a Project Engineer, when required.Develops maintenance of traffic plansMinimum RequirementsCommunicates clearly, concisely, and comprehensibly in both written and verbal formatCurrently registered as a Professional Engineer by the State of FloridaCapable of signing and sealing engineering drawings and documents in accordance with the rules of the Florida Board of Professional Engineers and Florida Statute 61G15-23Physical Requirements:Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public via the telephone and personal contactPhysical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, word processor, calculator, copier, and fax machineAbility to stand, walk, move, or kneel may be required to perform dutiesPhysical capability to effectively use field inspection instruments including, but not limited to: cameras, levels, measuring tapes, survey tools, measuring rods, measuring wheels, and paper, bound, or electronic inspection forms/books.For all positions:Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation.Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies.
