Assembly Technician (Multiple Levels)

This role focuses on assembling fixtures, signage, displays, and other custom products in a manufacturing environment. You ensure that all products are built accurately, safely, and on time according to work orders, bills of materials, and quality standards. Depending on your experience level, you may handle more complex or larger assemblies, support electrical plug-and-play builds, and serve as a technical resource on the production floor. You may also assist with on-site installations and support related tasks such as inventory control, packing, shipping, and general shop upkeep.

Responsibilities

• Assemble small to large components according to work orders and bills of materials, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Use tape measures and other measuring tools to verify part dimensions and confirm components meet specifications.
• Operate basic hand and power tools, including drills, table saws, chop saws, and other standard shop equipment.
• Build assembly kits by gathering, counting, and packaging required parts according to the bill of materials.
• Ensure all components, hardware, and documentation are complete and ready for production or shipment.
• Perform mechanical assembly tasks with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality and consistency.
• Read and interpret bills of materials, blueprints, and work instructions to build products correctly.
• Use hand and power tools proficiently in a production environment to assemble structures and subassemblies.
• Apply transferable skills from carpentry or cabinetry to build, fit, and finish assemblies.
• Perform basic electrical assembly tasks such as soldering, wire stripping, and organizing connectors as needed.
• Complete plug-and-play electrical assemblies, including installing LED connectors and managing cables (no wiring design required).
• Perform all Level 1 and Level 2 responsibilities at a high level of accuracy and efficiency for Level 3 roles.
• Apply strong mechanical expertise to complex, custom, or larger assemblies and fixtures.
• Serve as a highly experienced assembler and technical resource on the production floor for Level 3 roles.
• Act as a lead assembler or lead installer on certain on-site installations when required.
• Support inventory control, packing, shipping, and general clean-up tasks as needed.
• Follow all safety procedures and contribute to resolving production, quality, and safety issues.
• Meet established production schedules while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Essential Skills

• Experience in a manufacturing, production, or general labor environment with at least 8 months of job tenure, ideally 1 year or more.
• Ability to assemble components of varying sizes using work orders and bills of materials.
• Proficiency using tape measures and basic measuring tools to verify dimensions.
• Ability to operate basic hand tools and power tools such as drills, table saws, chop saws, and impact drills.
• Capability to read and interpret blueprints, bills of materials, and work instructions (required for higher levels).
• Mechanical assembly experience, including building structures from pulled materials and preparing them for shipment.
• Basic electrical assembly skills, including soldering, wire stripping, and organizing connectors (for Level 2 and above).
• Ability to complete plug-and-play electrical assemblies, including LED connectors and cable management (for Level 2 and above).
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting safety and quality standards.
• Reliability and consistency in attendance, with a stable employment history of 8 months or more in previous roles.
• Comfort working in a typical manufacturing environment that may be noisy and include exposure to glue and fumes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in carpentry, cabinetry, or similar trades that involve precise assembly and finishing.
• Experience building assembly kits, including gathering, counting, and packaging parts according to bills of materials.
• Prior experience as an assembler, cabinetmaker, or mechanical technician in a production setting.
• Experience acting as a lead assembler or serving as a technical resource on a production floor (for Level 3).
• Familiarity with general labor tasks such as machine operation, material handling, and shop organization.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with a close-knit production team.
• Willingness to support additional duties such as inventory control, packing, shipping, and administrative tasks as needed.

Work Environment

This position is based in a typical manufacturing facility that can be noisy and may at times have strong glue or other fumes present, consistent with production and assembly operations. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. During the summer period from Memorial Day to Labor Day, hours shift to Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Overtime is available on a voluntary basis but is not mandatory. You work with hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and production equipment in a shop environment. The dress code includes jeans, a casual shirt, closed-toe shoes, and safety glasses, which are required for safety on the production floor.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Middleton, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $24.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
