MPEC Research Operations Manager

Job Summary Responsible for managing the daily operations of administrative services within the organization, ensuring smooth and efficient workflows. This role oversees office functions, staff coordination, and provides administrative support to various departments, working to enhance administrative processes, ensure compliance with organizational policies, and support overall operational goals. Responsibilities Organizational Strategic Development & Operations Develops and executes an engagement strategy to attract new funding sources, emphasizing philanthropic and foundation partners. Implements the strategic plan through coordinated outreach, engagement, and communications initiatives. Leads marketing and public relations efforts to promote MPEC research, training opportunities, and outcomes. Oversees dissemination of research findings and training offerings to internal and external audiences. Strengthens visibility and positioning of MPEC locally, nationally, and globally. Builds and sustains collaborative relationships across MPEC pillars, MGB DOM Divisions, other MGB Departments, and external institutions. Identifies strategic priorities and develops a comprehensive strategic plan that increases synergy between MPEC pillars. Collaborates with the Research Finance Manager to expand and sustain federal, foundation, and philanthropic support. Develops and implements a comprehensive strategy for MPEC operational growth. Provides strategic oversight for recruiting, training, mentorship, and professional development of research staff. Develops and oversees an MPEC communications strategy, including presentation of scientific outputs to public and scientific partners. Works with MPEC leadership and staff to promote and disseminate research findings, methods, and training opportunities. Leverages innovative platforms such as social media and online tools to engage partners, potential collaborators, funders, and the public. Applies a robust understanding of research processes across clinical, transactional, implementation science, health services/outcomes research, economic analysis, and global health. Builds and maintains operational infrastructure for community‑engaged partnerships, coordinating administrative processes for investigators. Develops resources and guidance to strengthen community partner administrative capacity, reducing barriers to participation. Assists in establishing center‑wide best practices for community‑engaged and multi‑site partnerships. Creates, improves, and sustains best practices to drive continuous research improvement efforts through needs assessments and exit interviews. Leads monthly center‑wide meetings and attends faculty and all‑MPEC‑wide meetings. Meets weekly with the MPEC Director(s) and the Research Finance Manager. Research Personnel Management Serves as a source of expertise for human‑resource issues and remains up to date on personnel‑related matters such as benefits, FMLA, and work‑day compliance. Collaborates with MGB HR Business Partners on reductions in force and performance improvement plans. Engages personnel and provides resources for counseling, PIP counseling, and support. Ensures annual compliance for supervisory organization staff, including training requirements and performance reviews. Directs supervisory performance reviews, coding, and approval processes in Workday. Submits pay changes for merit, adjustments, and promotions. Supervises the Staff Manager and oversees recruiting, staffing, performance management, and professional development for MPEC staff. Evaluates staffing needs and sets recruiting priorities and timelines in collaboration with faculty and leadership. Establishes frameworks for staff professional and retention strategies. Develops and approves center‑wide HR policies and SOPs. Center Operations and Management Supervises the Research Office Manager to maintain equipment inventory and assist with procurement and reimbursements. Coordinates research trainee activities, scheduling, onboarding, and billing agreements. Oversees research space inventory, density management, asset certification, and space needs forecasting. Partners with DOM Division administrators to coordinate seating adjustments. Oversees identification and fulfillment of technology and technical support needs. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of research administration experience in an academic or non‑profit research environment. Experience in strategic development and implementation. Expertise in clinical research oversight and procedures preferred. Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or similar credential preferred. Experience with foundation and philanthropic funding preferred. Experience with communications and development activities preferred. Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong organizational and time‑management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Proficiency in office software and administrative technologies. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast‑paced environment. Experience in managing and mentoring a team. Compensation Pay Range: $70,990.40 – $101,202.40 annual.
