Job Title: Substation Commissioning Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a Commissioning Engineer to support substation projects across the Panhandle area. This role focuses on final testing, validation, and energization of substation systems, ensuring that all components are fully operational before being brought online.

• Support commissioning efforts in both greenfield and brownfield substations.
• Perform protection and controls testing and validation to ensure system integrity.
• Review and execute relay testing and logic verification to confirm protection schemes.
• Understand and work with three-phase electrical systems to assess system readiness.
• Provide final sign-off prior to the energization of substations and equipment.

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in substation commissioning.
• Proficiency in protection and controls testing.
• Experience with relay testing and logic verification.
• Strong understanding of three-phase electrical systems.
• Accountability in final sign-off responsibilities before energization.

• Electrical engineering degree preferred; PE license strongly preferred.
• Project leadership exposure and relay setting development experience.
• Senior relay technicians with 10–15+ years of experience considered in lieu of degree.
• Ability and willingness to travel for work.

This role involves significant travel across the Amarillo, Texas area, with approximately 60% of work based locally. Work assignments may require travel for up to two weeks at a time. The position involves working in live, high-impact environments during the final stages of energization. A mix of local and travel assignments offers exposure to complex protection and control systems and critical infrastructure projects. A relocation and sign-on bonus is available for strong candidates, providing opportunities for career advancement into leadership roles. The position offers strong compensation growth tied to technical advancement.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Amarillo, TX.

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $80.00/hr.
