Assistant Director of Federal Relations

The University of Alaska (UA) system is seeking a highly motivated and ambitious Assistant Director of Federal Relations to join the UA Office of Government Relations, Federal Relations team based in Washington, DC. Working closely with the Executive Director of Federal Relations, you will play a critical role in advancing UA’s public policy priorities with Congress, federal agencies, higher education associations, and Alaska-based organizations. In addition, this is a unique opportunity to work with senior leaders across the UA system in establishing and executing federal policy priorities.
The ideal candidate will establish and maintain excellent working relationships with the Alaska Congressional delegation. The Assistant Director will want to make a difference in advancing UA’s federal priorities that ultimately also help advance Alaska’s workforce and economic development. This position will contribute significantly to strategic advocacy engagements, help raise the profile of the UA system in DC, and track and influence federal policies impactful to UA.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At least three years of professional experience working in or with Congress and/or federal government. Highly driven with a demonstrated ability to work independently. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Relevant experience performing government relations activities.
Position Details:
This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule , Grade 81, based on education and experience.
