Surgical Technology Instructor/Coordinator

Program Hiring SUNY Niagara is seeking a Full‑Time Surgical Technology Instructor who is ready to share their real‑world knowledge, guide students through hands‑on learning experiences, and help strengthen the healthcare workforce across Western New York. Faculty have the ability to shape curriculum, work closely with students in both lab and clinical settings, and play an important role in developing highly skilled surgical technologists for our regional healthcare partners. Program Responsibilities The Surgical Technology Coordinator/Instructor is responsible for delivering high‑quality instruction to students in our Surgical Technology Associate degree program, preparing students for entry‑level positions as surgical technologists. The instructor provides classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction; supports student success; and participates in curriculum development, assessment, and program accreditation activities. Instruction Teach assigned courses in surgical technology, including didactic, laboratory, and clinical components. Integrate current surgical practices, technologies, and evidence‑based procedures into instruction. Collaborate with other faculty to integrate clinical experiences with classroom instruction. Ensure compliance with all program policies, accreditation standards, and clinical site requirements. Promote a safe and respectful learning environment. Identify, select and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles and special needs. Develop, integrate, and deliver course content planning documents, including, but not limited to, course syllabi and assessments. Develop and administer tests, practical exams, and assignments to assess students’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Evaluate student performance through exams, practical assessments, and clinical evaluations. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students, clinical site personnel and other professionals on a regular basis. Professional Development Participate in curriculum development, assessment of learning outcomes, and accreditation activities. Stay current with practices and trends through professional development and continuing education. Participate in departmental and college‑wide committees, activities, and events. Engage in professional development opportunities to remain current. Participate in faculty development opportunities, including program‑specific and campus‑wide faculty meetings. Administrative Duties Meet requirements for creation, distribution, retention and/or submission of paperwork. Collaborate with clinical affiliates to support student placements and clinical experiences. Conduct site visits and evaluate student performance in clinical settings. Maintain relationships with healthcare partners to ensure quality clinical opportunities. Assist with program accreditation processes and compliance with regulatory standards. Recruit and retain students. Provide at least 5 office hours per week. Complete required reporting such as student attendance, census, student learning outcome progress (course level), and final grade calculation and entry. Attend required College functions/events. Participate in faculty senate and divisional committees. Advise students for classes and career options. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in a health‑related field or a closely related field. Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST). 3–5 years of recent surgery or teaching clinical experience. Start Date and Schedule The start date of the position will be August 27, 2026 (pending budget approval). The successful candidate will only be required to work 162 days per academic year (August – May) and will be provided with a winter break from mid‑December to early January, and a Spring Break for one week in mid‑March. This position may be required to work for periods of time in the summer months (June, July, and August) as the Program Coordinator. The base salary will increase with the additional responsibilities of the Coordinator, with stipends in the summer.
