Growing togetherThe Accounting Consultant role within Individual and Family Plans will primarily be responsible to lead the day-to-day execution of core accounting functions, including general ledger activities, financial analysis, and financial reporting. This role ensures accuracy, compliance with GAAP, and support of financial close, financial reporting, and audit processes in a rapidly growing and increasingly complex business.You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week. The preferred location for this position is the Minnetonka, MN office.Primary Responsibilities:Serve as a trusted accounting partner to business leaders, finance teams, and cross-functional stakeholdersLead monthly closing activities for assigned, including full P&L and balance sheet ownershipMaintain general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries in accordance with GAAP and company policiesPerform account reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and resolve complex accounting and financial reporting issuesAnalyze monthly financial results and prepare clear P&L and balance sheet variance commentarySupport monthly, quarterly, and annual close and financial reporting activities, including preparation or review of financial statements and supporting schedulesDevelop, document, implement, and maintain effective accounting processes, procedures, and internal controlsIdentify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of accounting processes and reportingManage multiple priorities independently and collaborate with team members to ensure accurate and timely deliverablesSolve moderately complex problems and/or conduct moderately complex analysesYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and / or relevant accounting/finance experience3+ years of Accounting experience including month-end close, preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations Experience working with general ledger / sub-ledger accounting applicationsSolid understanding and practical application of U.S. GAAPIntermediate or higher level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)Preferred Qualifications:Public accounting experience and / or CPA designation Healthcare industry experienceExperience with Peoplesoft Financials, Hyperion SmartView and BlacklineAbility to demonstrate solid planning and organizational skills, along with a high degree of detail orientationAbility to demonstrate effective communication skills, both verbal and writtenProven ability to work in both team and self-directed work environmentsProven ability to solve moderately complex problems and / or conduct moderately complex analysesProven ability to effectively prioritize and juggle multiple projectsProven to be a self-starter and solid time management*All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter PolicyPay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
