An auto mechanic inspects, maintains, and repairs cars and light trucks. They use computer tools and hand tools to find and fix mechanical and electrical problems so vehicles run safely.
Key Responsibilities
- Find car issues using computer tools and tests.
- Do routine care like oil changes, fluid checks, and tire rotations.
- Fix or swap out broken parts like brakes, sensors, and belts.
- Test drive cars to make sure repairs work.
- Write down all parts used and work done.
- Tell customers or service writers what repairs are needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Trade school training or an automotive certificate.
- Good hand skills and physical stamina.
- Know how to use shop tools and diagnostic software.
- Valid driver's license.
- Bilingual a plus.
