Overview The City of Gresham Police Department is accepting applications for Entry Level Police Officer positions. Respond to emergency calls; assess incidents; provide first aid; interview witnesses and suspects; document and coordinate with hospitals or clinicians. Report traffic issues and hazards; direct vehicular and pedestrian flow; enforce parking regulations; de‑escalate crowds at public gatherings. Conduct investigations of suspected illegal activity; gather and document evidence; coordinate with laboratories. Serve court‑ordered civil processes; prepare cases for prosecution; testify in court as required. Provide public education on laws and crime prevention; collaborate with community partners; maintain relationships with other agencies. Serve as Field Training Officer for new officers; engage in specialty assignments; attend meetings and trainings; maintain and inspect equipment. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications United States citizen within 18 months of employment At least 21 years of age on the date of hire High school diploma or equivalent Physically fit to perform all essential duties; physician approval required Good moral character; no convictions for felony or sex crime, domestic violence, or other moral turpitude Current valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to work effectively with a diverse population Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of city laws, ordinances, and police procedures Understanding of public administration and governance Proficiency with investigative techniques and evidence collection Ability to use firearms and equipment safely Physical fitness to climb, run, lift over 50 lbs, and handle resisting suspects Effective interpersonal communication and de‑escalation skills Ability to work under hostile and emergency conditions Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities Selection Process Phase I: Application and Entrance Exam – online application and Law Enforcement Frontline Exam (written, reading, video). Exemption if a four‑year degree is verified. Phase II: Interview – scheduled in‑person or virtual; candidates placed on an eligibility list. Phase III: Pre‑Suitability Assessment – remote test and personal history questionnaire. Phase IV: Executive Interview – with command staff. Phase V: Background Investigation and Conditional Offer – Statement of Personal History, pre‑background interview, and full background check. Phase VI: Psychological Evaluation and Job‑Related Physical Exam – clinical psychologist interview and physical/medical exam. Confirmation – appointment letter and swearing‑in.
