Job Purpose

The Installation Technician is responsible for the installation, programming, testing, and commissioning of security, fire alarm, access control, video surveillance, and related low-voltage systems. This position works directly with customers, project managers, and internal teams to ensure installations are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards, applicable codes, and customer expectations.

The Installation Technician serves as a professional representative of Gillmore Security Systems and is expected to provide exceptional customer service while delivering quality workmanship on every project.

Duties and Responsibilities

System Installation

• Install, terminate, and test low-voltage wiring and associated devices.
• Install and configure security alarm, fire alarm, access control, video surveillance, and related systems.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
• Mount equipment and devices according to manufacturer requirements and applicable codes.
• Ensure all installations are completed accurately and professionally.

Programming and Testing

• Program system components, control panels, cameras, access control systems, and related equipment.
• Test installed systems to verify proper operation and functionality.
• Perform system commissioning and customer demonstrations upon project completion.
• Troubleshoot installation issues and make necessary adjustments to ensure system performance.

Customer Service

• Maintain professional communication with customers throughout the installation process.
• Explain system operation and answer customer questions.
• Represent Gillmore Security Systems in a courteous and professional manner at all times.
• Address customer concerns and escalate issues when necessary.

Documentation and Compliance

• Complete job documentation, installation reports, and required project records.
• Document changes, deficiencies, and site conditions accurately.
• Follow company procedures, installation standards, and safety requirements.
• Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and national codes and regulations.

Team Support

• Coordinate with Installation Coordinators, Supervisors, Project Managers, and other technicians to ensure successful project execution.
• Assist with training and mentoring less experienced technicians when requested.
• Participate in department meetings, training programs, and company initiatives.
• Support service, maintenance, or inspection activities as needed.

Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Technical training in electronics, electrical systems, or low-voltage systems preferred.·      

Experience

• 1-3 years of experience installing security, fire alarm, access control, or video surveillance systems preferred.
• Experience working with hand tools, power tools, and construction environments.
• Experience in the low-voltage or security industry is strongly preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of low-voltage wiring methods and installation practices.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and mobile applications.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record

Certifications (Preferred)

• NICET Certification
• ESA Certification

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

• Primarily field-based work at customer locations.
• Frequent travel throughout assigned service areas.
• Regular use of ladders, lifts, power tools, and testing equipment.
• Exposure to construction environments and varying weather conditions.
• Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required based on project schedules.
• On call rotation required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders and work at heights of 40 feet or more.
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to operate tools and equipment.
• Ability to safely operate company vehicles.
