The Assistant Controller is a strategic financial leader who partners with operational and production leadership to translate financial data into actionable insights and drive measurable results. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES Financial Stewardship & Business Intelligence – 60% • Delivers comprehensive, timely financial analysis and strategic insights that support senior leadership decisions.• Owns month‑end and year‑end close processes, driving continuous improvement to accelerate cycles and enhance data quality.• Uses advanced analytics to identify process inefficiencies, cost optimization opportunities, and revenue enhancements specific to healthcare staffing economics.• Performs rigorous variance analysis, provides proactive recommendations, and resolves variances, errors, or omissions.• Ensures accuracy and completeness of complex accounting transactions, maintaining controls over consolidations, intercompany transactions, and sensitive accounting determinations.• Partners with external auditors and internal stakeholders to ensure efficient audit processes, mastery of healthcare‑specific compliance, and robust internal controls.• Manages compliance with regulatory requirements unique to healthcare staffing, including licensing, tax filings, and industry‑specific reporting obligations. Strategic Talent Leadership & Organizational Excellence – 20% • Optimizes team capacity, implements productivity systems, and fosters a high‑performance culture characterized by accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.• Owns end‑to‑end accounting processes, driving standardization, automation, and continuous improvement to reduce risk and enhance efficiency.• Develops talent strategies, provides mentorship, conducts performance coaching, and delivers corrective action plans when needed.• Keeps senior management informed of accomplishments and opportunities for improvement. Operating Expense Leadership & Strategic Financial Planning – 20% • Leads comprehensive operating expense forecasting and modeling, partnering with the FP&A team to ensure integrated financial planning.• Serves as a strategic business partner to operations and clinical leadership on operating expense optimization, identifying automation opportunities and cost‑management strategies.• Develops and maintains operating expense forecasting models, collaborates with FP&A, and ensures real‑time visibility of operating expense data.• Owns operating expense budget development, managing budget variances and providing strategic guidance on cost optimization. Secondary Functions (IF APPLICABLE) • Manages company payroll bank account reconciliations and cash forecasts.• May work on special projects or other duties as assigned. Supervisory/Budgetary/External Communication Responsibility Directly manages and mentors a team of 4‑5 accounting professionals and holds full P&L accountability for team productivity, quality, and capability development. Represents the accounting function in executive‑level discussions with external stakeholders, maintaining professional relationships that enhance organizational credibility. Qualifications – Education, Work Experience, Certifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license. 7+ years of progressive accounting experience in general ledger, financial reporting, or financial planning roles, with a track record in complex financial environments. 3+ years in a supervisory or team leadership capacity. Healthcare services or staffing industry experience strongly preferred; familiarity with healthcare compliance, revenue cycle, and staffing economics is a plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Expert-level technical proficiency: Advanced Excel (modeling, data analysis, automation); mastery of ERP systems (Workday, Salesforce); strong command of GAAP and accounting controls. AI and automation acumen: Ability to identify and implement RPA and AI‑driven solutions to reduce manual processes. Expert analytical and problem‑solving: Synthesizes complex data into actionable insights; demonstrates a rigorous approach to diagnosing issues and identifying innovative solutions. Strong data integrity and reconciliation: Meticulous attention to accuracy; consolidates data from multiple systems and identifies root causes of discrepancies. Exceptional communication and influence: Articulates complex financial concepts clearly to diverse audiences; demonstrates executive presence and persuasion in high‑level settings.
