Description:

The Water Chemistry Analyst is responsible for chemistry analysis in the water chemistry division of the General Chemistry Department, which includes conducting testing, performing maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment and method issues, ensuring procedures are followed in compliance with EPA methods, Standard Methods, and established SOPs, demonstrating ability to perform tests through proper training, maintaining appropriate turnaround times and workflow, responding to client inquiries via lab directors and administration, and providing backup support to other chemistry analysts including non-water tests within the department as needed. 

 

Primary Duties:

1. Conduct testing and data analysis specific to waters analysis including but not limited to:

a. Ion Chromatography (300.0 and food/solids), Oil & Grease, TOC/DOC, Chlorophyll in Water.

2. Conduct testing and data analysis as a primary analyst or as back up throughout the remaining Water Chemistry department, including non-water tests.

3. Organize sample retains, including initial sample pour-offs and preservation, sample disposal and backup to ICP-MS turbidity and pH checks

4. Prepare and maintain inventory of water collection bottles, vials, and containers for water analysis alongside the waters manager

5. Maintain and troubleshoot analytical equipment

6. Follow established quality control measures and safety measures including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

7. Read and understand Standard Operating Procedures, working instructions, and safety data sheets

8. Perform proficiency testing and enter data in LIMS

9. Communicate with the Waters Director and General Chemistry Director with regards to sample tracking, department delays or issues that affect clients.

Secondary Duties:

1. Provide back up and support to the Water Chemistry Director and other members of the General Chemistry and Water Department as needed

a. Backup for pH, Conductivity, Turbidity, Residual Chlorine (free and total), Color, Total Suspended Solids, Total Dissolved Solids, Total Solids, Total Volatile Solids, Settleable Solids, Hardness, Alkalinity, and BOD/CBOD

b. Train to backup SRP/Orthophosphate by discrete

2. Monitor and prepare all water send-outs, including pour off and preservation.

Lab-wide Shared Duties:

1. Dispose of garbage to the dumpster as needed

2. Morning and End of day checklists

3. Temperature checklists at the beginning and end of the workday

4. Dishes

5. Cleaning and laboratory maintenance

6. Re-stocking supplies

7. Lab Organization

8. Sample preparation

9. Sample storage

Requirements:

• BA-Science/BS or High School Diploma and 2 years Laboratory Technician
• Full time position
• Laboratory Experience (2 years)
