School Nurse

Provides direct services to students, using the nursing process to provide care to the school community following current medical practice and nursing standards, relevant statutes, and regulations. Essential duties and responsibilities include providing basic first aid following the district's first aid procedure, notifying supervisor of any injury requiring medical or dental intervention or immediate absence from school, examining students who present probable symptoms of a communicable disease, receiving proper documentation from the physician to re-admit students who were on leave, facilitating self-medication as outlined in district guidelines, providing services to students with special medical needs as ordered by their physician, maintaining a record of student contacts on appropriate school forms, documenting all accidents on the school's accident report form, contacting the appropriate adult to arrange transportation of sick or injured students, conducting height and weight screening for all students in the assigned building, reviewing immunization data on assigned students for accuracy and completeness, scheduling students for various screening procedures and medical examinations, maintaining a complete, accurate health record for all students assigned and initiating a health record for all new students, inventorying supplies, securing and dispensing all necessary supplies to maintain health room standards, consulting with students and families to make appropriate agency referrals, scheduling and assisting with mandated school dental exams and physical exams, assisting and/or conducting testing, including growth, auditory, vision, and scoliosis. Other duties within certification may be assigned by the Principal or designee. Must possess a valid nursing license (RN); CSN preferred. Hours: 8:05 a.m. - 3:35 p.m.
