Watts & Associates is working discreetly with a highly regarded Am Law ranked international full service firm seeking a Senior Fund Formation Lawyer to join its Washington, DC office.
This role offers direct access to sophisticated fund formation and alternative investments work for major sponsors and institutional investors, including sovereign entities. You will work closely with experienced partners, gain meaningful responsibility on complex mandates, and build a long term career on a well established international platform with strong training, mentorship, and cross border collaboration.

The Role
- Advise sponsors on the full lifecycle of private equity and other alternative investment fund formations
- Counsel limited partners, including sovereign funds, on investments into private equity and other private vehicles
- Handle structuring, fundraising, investor negotiations, governance, and operational aspects of investment funds
- Advise on general 1940 Act matters, with scope to expand into dedicated 1940 Act fund work
- Work closely with partners, taking substantive ownership of matters and direct client facing responsibility
Ideal Candidate Profile
The firm is seeking a Senior Fund Formation Lawyer with:
- More than 6 years of relevant post qualification fund formation experience
- Proven experience advising sponsors on fund formation and ongoing fund operations
- Demonstrated experience representing limited partners, including institutional or sovereign investors, in private investment vehicles
- General experience with 1940 Act matters, with dedicated 1940 Act fund experience viewed as a plus
- Admission to practice in the District of Columbia and ability to work in office 5 days per week
