Manager, Licensed Surgical Assistant

Total Medical Surgical Assists is looking for a full-time Manager, Licensed Surgical Assistant to join our team! The Manager, Licensed Surgical Assistant, is responsible for providing clinical, operational, and administrative leadership for Total Medical, LLC d/b/a Total Medical Surgical Assists. This position oversees staff performance, scheduling, workflow, clinical competency, resource utilization, and compliance with quality and patient safety. The Manager collaborates with surgeons and surgical facility leaders to support safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care and may perform Licensed Surgical Assistant duties as required.

Essential Functions:

• Manages the daily business operations of the surgical assistant practice.
• Provides leadership and direction to Licensed Surgical Assistants and Certified Surgical Assistants, including CSFA, CSA, and SA-C, and other assigned team members.
• Manages staffing for the practice and assigns Licensed and Certified Surgical Assistants to cases based on the surgical schedule, surgeon requests, and facility coverage needs.
• Leads employee recruitment, interviewing, selection, and onboarding.
• Leads business development to grow the practice, including recruiting additional Licensed and Certified Surgical Assistants.
• Identifies and onboards new facilities and surgeons for the practice to serve.
• Establishes performance expectations and provides coaching, feedback, and corrective action.
• Conducts employee performance evaluations and supports professional development.
• Ensures staff licenses, certifications, training, and clinical competencies remain current.
• Promotes teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and a positive work environment.
• Collaborates with surgeons, facilities, and their scheduling teams to coordinate surgical assistant coverage.
• Addresses staffing concerns and resolves coverage gaps or scheduling conflicts.
• Monitors productivity, overtime, and case volume.
• Leads initiatives to improve service quality, staff performance, and surgeon satisfaction.
• Ensures compliance with company policies, credentialing and payer requirements, and applicable regulations.
• Reviews service or personnel issues and implements appropriate corrective actions.
• Serves as a clinical resource and performs Licensed Surgical Assistant duties in surgery as needed.
• Maintains accurate personnel, competency, operational, and business documentation and performs other related duties as assigned.
• Perform other related tasks as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of leadership principles, personnel management, staffing, employee development, and performance management.
• Ability to lead, coach, motivate, and hold team members accountable for clinical and operational performance.
• Ability to organize and coordinate staffing and resources in a fast-paced surgical environment.
• Ability to evaluate workflows, analyze performance data, identify risks, and implement sustainable improvements.
• Knowledge of applicable healthcare regulations, credentialing, and payer requirements.
• Knowledge of healthcare business development, marketing, and client relationship management.
• Knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, operative procedures, instrumentation, and aseptic technique.
• Knowledge of first-assisting techniques, including exposure, retraction, tissue handling, hemostasis, suturing, and wound closure.
• Ability to anticipate the needs of surgeons and the surgical team and respond effectively to changing intraoperative conditions.
• Skill in suturing and other approved first-assisting techniques.
• Skill in saphenous vein harvesting when required for the assigned service line.
• Ability to maintain the sterile field and recognize and correct breaks in sterile technique.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain composure, and make effective decisions in urgent or high-pressure situations.
• Strong organizational, delegation, prioritization, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships with employees, surgeons, and organizational leaders.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive personnel and patient information appropriately.
• Proficiency with basic business and clinical computer applications and the ability to accurately enter, retrieve, and evaluate information.

Education and Experience:

• Completion of an Accredited Surgical Assistant program
• Current Licensed Surgical Assistant (LSA) license issued by the Texas Medical Board
• Current CSFA, CSA, or SA-C certification from a nationally recognized certifying organization
• Four (4) years of experience as a Surgical Assistant
• Two (2) years of leadership experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Compensation to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Employment for this position is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and drug screening.
