Summary We are seeking a seasoned, field-oriented Subcontract Supervisor with 10+ years of experience in the Heavy Civil, Industrial, and/or Power sectors. This is a critical hybrid role, responsible for the full-cycle management of large-scale, high-value subcontracts. In the Field, this individual will deploy to project sites to act as the primary commercial and administrative lead for all subcontracted work. They will be responsible for ensuring subcontractors perform safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with all contractual terms. This role requires an expert negotiator with knowledge of field-specific realities of large-scale construction. Roles and Responsibilities This is a project-based role. Administration & Compliance: Serve as the primary point of commercial contact for all subcontractors after award. Lead formal subcontract kick-off meetings to ensure alignment on scope, safety, schedule, and administrative procedures. Rigorously track and manage all subcontractor compliance items, including insurance certificates, bonds, safety plans, and quality control documentation. Performance Management: Continuously monitor subcontractor field progress against the project schedule, working closely with the Superintendent and Project Controls. Identify and manage potential risks, performance issues, and schedule slippages; develop mitigation plans in coordination with the project team. Change Management: Manage the entire subcontract change order process, from initial notification and pricing to negotiation and execution of the formal change order. Maintain the official subcontract change log and ensure all changes are properly documented. Review, validate, and process all subcontractor applications for payment and invoices. Track and manage potential back-charges, claims, or disputes to protect the project's commercial interests. Closeout: Lead the comprehensive subcontract closeout process, including punch list completion, final lien waiver collection, warranty documentation, and release of retainage. Requirements Advanced Negotiation: Proven ability to lead complex, high-stakes negotiations and resolve disputes amicably and professionally. Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of cost control, invoice validation, and the financial impact of change orders and claims. Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate complex contractual concepts to operations teams and senior leadership. Field Orientation: A practical, hands-on understanding of field operations, construction sequencing, and safety. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Organization: Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple high-value subcontracts simultaneously. Qualifications & Experience Education : Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, or a related field is strongly preferred. Experience : A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in subcontract management, procurement, or contract administration. Direct project experience within the Heavy Civil, Industrial (e.g., Petrochemical, Manufacturing), or Power (e.g., Generation, Renewables, T&D) sectors is required. Proven experience managing individual subcontracts valued greater than $10 million. Project Types : Experience with various project delivery models, such as EPC, Design-Build, and Lump Sum, is highly desirable. Technology : Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Viewpoint) and Vista ERP systems is preferred. Travel : Must be willing and able to travel extensively and/or accept project-based field assignments (rotational or full relocation) as required.
