Materials Handler IThe Distribution Team at Mines plays a critical role in keeping campus operations running smoothly. The Materials Handler I position assists and advises the Colorado School of Mines campus with their distribution needs through Central Receiving, Central Stores, Mail and Package Delivery services. The ideal candidate for this role is detail-oriented, dependable, approachable and comfortable working in a physically active environment.What You Will DoUnload trucks with forklift as necessary, organize freight, check in and log packages, stage packages for delivery.Maintain logs and filing systems for the purpose of tracking packages by date.Check all incoming freight for Purchase Orders, damaged as well as poorly labeled freight.Resolve customer, vendor and carrier issues.Load vehicles with freight that has been checked in for best delivery efficiency to optimize delivery times checking for time sensitive packages, deliver to proper location on campus with quality customer service.Maintain scheduled mail route and non· scheduled package delivery routes.Be a contact for those on campus regarding receiving issues and procedures.Check shipments with purchase orders to insure they reach the proper department. Assist with solving issues that require special handling, specialized equipment, or a particular request regarding deliveries.Pulling and packing Central Stores orders, staging for delivery and maintaining logs and paperwork related to the orders. Notify when inventory levels start looking low.Mail Services & DeliveryUnloading, handling and sorting of incoming United States Postal Service mail & packages along with interdepartmental mail for campus wide delivery.Act as backup in the processing of out-going mail when Mail Manager is not present.Must keep up with current USPS postal changes.Takes out all processed mail and mail that requires special attention of the Business Mail Technician (insured, certified and registered mail) to the USPS local postal station - all of which entails driving off campus.Maintain scheduled mail routes for both morning and afternoon mail runs.Opening/ClosingPrepare vehicles for that day's functions.Clear outside loading area of snow and debris due to inclement weather.Pull mail tubs from racks and load into vehicle in proper sequence for morning mail deliveries.Sort newspapers to proper departments for delivery.Review prior days paperwork and resolve outstanding issues.Prepare vehicles for overnight/weekend storage.Update daily/weekly logs and files.Clean work environment and equipment, check charge level and batteries on forklift- charge as necessary.Complete final walk through at end of the day/shift to ensure all areas in the building are secure prior to locking up.Key Skills for SuccessForklift operationShipping and receiving processesPackage tracking systemsMail and freight logisticsInventory and delivery coordinationTime managementAttention to detailProfessional communicationAccountabilityProblem solvingCustomer service excellenceWhy Join Our Team?Be part of a mission-driven organization supporting the entire campus community.Enjoy a consistent daytime schedule with no overnight shifts.Work in a collaborative environment where your contributions are visible and valued.Build leadership, logistics, and operations experience while mentoring others.Take on a dynamic role that combines physical activity, customer interaction, and problem-solving every day.If you are dependable, organized, and enjoy delivering excellent service while working in a fast-paced environment, we encourage you to apply for the Materials Handler I position.Please note: This position reports to campus Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
