Hourly City Worker / Youth Employment Team Supervisor

The Position

This is an unclassified, non-civil service, hourly position with no medical, dental or accrued leave benefits, with the exception of AB1522 - Healthy Workplace Healthy Family Act. Under general supervision, these positions are responsible for supervising and directing up to ten youth apprentice (14-24 years of age) performing hillside brush clearance, weed abatement, landscaping, debris clearance and other general labor tasks on private and public property. Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following: ensures department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest level of ethical standards. Performs hillside brush clearance, weed abatement, landscaping, debris clearance and other general labor tasks on private and public property. May also perform general office work. Uses and/or supervises the use of power and hand tools; the hauling and dumping of debris; and the maintenance of tools and equipment. Works weekday, evening and weekend hours. Transports youth apprentice in City vehicles; facilitates staff meetings; prepares and reports time sheets and other paperwork. Evaluates subordinate staff; performs other related duties as required. Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe efficient manner. Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.

Minimum Requirements

Experience: One year of recent supervisory experience, preferably in the supervision of youth. Education/Training: Graduation from high school or attainment of GED or CHSPE certificate and completion of 30 semester units of college work. License(s)/Certification(s): Valid Class C California driver's license. Must obtain CPR Certification within six months of employment. Desired Qualifications: Basic First Aid and CPR Certification; Valid California Commercial Drivers License, Class B. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to: provide exceptional customer service practices to those using the services of the Community Services & Parks Department. Adapt to changing work assignments. Comprehend directions in English. Effectively supervise others. Establish and maintain smooth working relationships and independently resolve interpersonal conflicts. Establish and maintain smooth working relationships with fellow employees and the public. Foster a teamwork environment. Model and practice the highest standards of ethical conduct. Provide clear work instruction. Read, write and comprehend directions in English. Review and evaluate employee's job performance. Safely use power and hand tools for landscaping. Work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings and holidays. Work independently. Work outdoors in the sun and climb hillsides. Selection Process
