Duties and Responsibilities (* denotes essential functions):
- *Serves as a Program Manager for the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI).
- *Manage program/project implementation and assists with monitoring research projects, meeting regularly with Principal Investigators and team members
- *Develop and maintain operational support databases and program management tools.
- *Provide support for program-level data collection, entry, analysis and communication.
- *Ensure compliance with all regulatory and instructional guidance related to state and federal rules, laws and regulations.
- *Facilitates communication and collaboration across internal and external stakeholders, including university researchers, funding agencies, and research partners
- *Provides guidance to faculty, staff, and students on program policies, compliance requirements, and reporting expectations.
- *Prepares and presents comprehensive reports, metrics, and program outcomes to leadership and funding agencies as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Professional Work Experience:
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business, Business Administration, Science, Engineering, or related field and 5 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for program management; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of private and government translational funding sources, such as the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR), as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
- Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with federal grant programs and their funding sources.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software, spreadsheet software, and database software.
- If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
Supplemental Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to understand new technologies at the conceptual level to envision potential commercial uses and appreciate any competitive advantage(s) over existing solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks, and to complete tasks on time and with attention to detail.
- Master's or higher degree(s) in Engineering, Computer Science, Physical Science, Life Science, or Medicine.
- At least 2 years of experience in developing grant proposals and meeting grant outcomes.
- Working knowledge of the innovation ecosystems around the University of Hawai'i and the State of Hawai`i.
- Experience working with faculty, researchers and students in academic settings.
