Director of Research Administration

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is hiring a Director of Research Administration. The role involves providing executive leadership over sponsored research activities campus-wide, overseeing proposal management, compliance with policies and regulations, and mentoring a team of research administration managers. The Director collaborates with leadership to set goals, represents the university externally, and advises on risk management issues. Highlights Oversee daily operations of pre-award and post-award compliance and program requirements for sponsored research. Provide leadership and mentorship to 3-4 Research Administration Managers, each managing teams of Sponsored Projects Specialists. Ensure compliance with federal, state laws, and university policies in research award management. Negotiate terms and conditions with sponsoring agencies for sponsored research. Collaborate with leadership to define team roles, set goals, and assess workload volume and complexity throughout the award life cycle. Require proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with management information systems preferred. Minimum qualifications include a master's degree with 2+ years supervisory experience and 7+ years relevant experience or a bachelor's degree with 4+ years supervisory experience and 7+ years relevant experience. Preferred experience includes university sponsored research administration, electronic grants administration systems (e.g., RAMSeS, Grants.gov, Research.gov), and managing proposal review and submission processes. Office of Sponsored Programs manages over $1 billion in sponsored awards annually, supporting the research community campus-wide.
