Intake Specialist

Location: HQ 101 North Wacker Drive Chicago, IL 60606, USA Job Overview We are hiring a full-time Intake Specialist for the Legal Aid Society (LAS), the legal services arm of Metropolitan Family Services. The role involves providing client‑centered, welcoming, and responsive intake and referral services to individuals and families, gathering pertinent information, and connecting clients to eligible services and resources. Salary The average starting salary will fall in the range of $44,000 to $50,000 annually, based on skill and experience level. Responsibilities Provide client‑centered, welcoming, and responsive intake and referral services to connect individuals and families with appropriate resources. Gather and process pertinent information to identify eligible services and resources. Collaborate with community resources to expand external referrals. Triage and de‑escalate persons in crisis seeking services. Work effectively with diverse staff and service populations. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma required with a minimum of 3 years of human service experience (direct client service, case management, counseling, or similar). Associate’s degree in a relevant field and 1+ years of human service experience OR a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (preferred). Ability to complete required 40‑hour domestic violence training. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Detail‑oriented, organized, and able to multitask in a fast‑paced environment. Courteous, patient, and exercised good judgment under pressure. Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups. Additional Requirements Satisfactorily pass all relevant screening and criminal background checks. Travel / Transportation Requirements Driving not required. Physical Requirements The employee must sit and stand for sustained periods, talk, hear, use hands and fingers, occasionally bend, stretch, stoop, kneel, and crouch, and lift or move up to 50 pounds.
