Supervisory General Engineer.

Duties Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short‑term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work. Oversee complex engineering and facilities projects from inception through completion, including post‑project evaluation. Coordinate flow of communications containing technical information to appropriate Smithsonian Institution personnel. Collaborate with senior Smithsonian Institution stakeholders to identify project needs, define objectives, and develop comprehensive work plans. Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered with Selective Service. Basic Education Requirements Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor’s degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first‑year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: Statics, dynamics. Strength of materials (stress‑strain relationships). Fluid mechanics, hydraulics. Thermodynamics. Electrical fields and circuits. Nature and properties of materials. Other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics (e.g., optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, electronics). Combination of education and experience – college‑level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. Demonstrate adequacy by one of the following: Professional registration or licensure – Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Written Test – Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other required written test. Specified academic courses – Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences that include the courses specified above. Related curriculum – Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate scientific field (e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology) coupled with at least one year of professional engineering experience under supervision. Specialized Experience One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS‑12 level in the Federal service or comparable pay band system related to the work of this position. Specialized experience defined as leading a renovation team by reviewing project requirements, resolving technical inquiries, advising on contract matters, and developing scopes of work; directing project teams responsible for the repair, renovation, and modernization of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems; and diagnosing system deficiencies and recommending engineering solutions to museum stakeholders, contractors, and senior leadership.
