Security Technician  

 

Overall Scope:

The Security Technician will be responsible for installing, servicing and troubleshooting/diagnostics on access control equipment and IP based video systems including, but not limited to: electrified and non-electrified locks, card readers, ancillary door devices, IP and analog cameras, head-end video recording devices, wired and wireless systems and intercom systems.  As a security technician, projects are in highly visible environments, active and occupied projects and construction sites.  This person is expected to very professional in various situations.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

·         A Security Technician may be required to perform any of the duties and responsibilities associated with classification ST (Security Technician) in addition to the following;

·         Demonstrate proficiency in reading and understanding electrical schematics, PDF drawings, and related documents associated with installation and/or service of security systems.

·         Lays out work and preps materials for installation.

·         Install cabling, mount equipment, install card readers, door contacts, mag locks, electrified strikes and integrated systems.

·         Functional understanding of low voltage systems, relays, normally closed/normally open.

·         Assembles and installs access control panels, power supplies, cable pathways system and various cable that includes, but is not limited to, CAT cable, low voltage cable and coax.

·         General understanding of Network Topology.

·         Test voltage and continuity using a multi-meter.

·         Possess mechanical and computer skill and ability to effectively troubleshoot.

·         Operates any hand tools and equipment necessary to perform all associated tasks.

·         Performs other project related duties and assignments as instructed by supervisor.

·         Meets attendance standards and complies with late/absence notification procedures.

 

Requirements

·         Active, or ability to obtain access control license.

·         Experience:  Must have 5 or more years in relevant access control installation, service and configuration.

·         Safety: Osha 10 or ability to get certified. Osha 30 is a Strong Plus

Physical Demands

•         While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

•         This job operates in a client project environment with exposure to employee, subcontractors & trades.

•         Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment

•         Ability to comprehend forms in space and understand relationships of plane and solid objects used in such tasks as blueprint reading and in solving geometry problems.  Frequently described as the ability to “visualize” objects of two and three dimensions, or to think visually of geometric forms.

•         Ability to manipulate materials and/or equipment up to 50 lbs. The frequency of manipulation if frequently.

•         Ability to move up or mount by using the hands or feet to include:

Ladders - Step stool, 8' to 10' ladder, extension ladder

•         Stairways - 3 or more flights

•         To bend forward or down from the middle of the waist or the middle of the back, to bend, downwards, to lower oneself and/or to move freely on hands and knees between 20-50 times daily                             

•         To stretch out, extend, or put forth a bodily part. To touch or grasp something, by extending or stretching. To touch, lift, hold or operate with the hands up to 50 times daily.                          

•         To perceive or comprehend by the sense of sight.

•         Characteristics are: Focus, Color perception or depth perception.                                     

•         The ability to operate or convey in a vehicle, car, commercial vehicle               

 

Education & Qualifications

•         Working knowledge of Computers & Microsoft Office

•         High School Diploma or equivalent required

•         Strong organization, time management, and verbal/written communication skills

•         Strong math and accounting skills

•         Must possess strong decision making, & problem-solving skills

•         Familiarity with and ability to read and understand drawings and specifications

•         Working knowledge of terms and conditions of project contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders

•         Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times

•         Ability to work independently and as a member of a cross functional team

•         Ability to travel as needed.
