Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - General Med/Tele skillset - Stroke experience - Cardiac rhythm interpretation - Tracheostomy care - Peripheral IV starts - Chest tube management - NGT placement - Drain and tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, Flexiseals, Foley insertion and management) - Patient-controlled analgesia pumps - Medication drip management including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, IV fluids Description: The facility has 207 licensed beds. There is no trauma designation. It is not a teaching hospital. It is recognized as a chest pain center and stroke center. The unit will vary based on patient needs. Patients will be assigned to the home unit on the first day of orientation. The unit has 26 beds. Patient types include general medical telemetry and surgical patients. Common diagnoses include bariatric weight loss surgery, urology procedures, general post-operative care, abdominal surgeries, GI bleeds, small bowel obstructions, and foot and ankle surgeries. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:5-6, increasing to 1:7-8 during critical surges. The patient care assistant-to-nurse ratio varies from 1:6-12. Support within the department includes a patient care assistant, receptionist, and charge nurse who may or may not have patients. Phlebotomy and peripheral blood draws are available. There is an IV and VAT team available from 11 AM to 7 PM and 11 PM to 7 AM. Hospitalists and intensivists are available 24/7. A telemetry monitoring technician is present in the unit. The electronic medical record system used is Epic. IV pumps are Alaris, and medication dispensing is through Omnicell. Monitors used are Phillips. Floating may be required to all units within the organization and across the region based on patient needs, within the scope of practice. Traveling between facilities mid-shift will be compensated. Weekend rotations are required every other week. Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved for up to six days, excluding holidays, provided that the contracted hours are met. The schedule cycle is every six weeks. Scrub color required is navy.
