Environmental Services Supervisor

Position Title: Environmental Services Supervisor Position Overview Student & staff housekeeping lead and oversee maintenance of Loyola University Maryland facilities. Manager of environmental services technicians, project relief specialists, and crew leaders. Responsibilities Supervise maintenance of buildings and facilities to ensure cleanliness, orderliness, and an aesthetically appealing environment. Schedule, assign, and coordinate work assignments; approve or deny leave slips and overtime. Plan and supervise coverage for University events and floor‑care projects; assign coverage for summer cleaning. Establish and maintain quality and customer‑service standards; oversee ordering and issuance of environmental‑services material and equipment. Use the Data Stream system to pull work tickets, assign staff, resolve issues, and close the work request following proper procedures. Proactively suggest operational improvements to support the University. Assist the Director and other designated management personnel as needed. Maintain regular and effective communication with building and facility users, fostering responsive relationships with the college community. Supervise, train, coach, and counsel employees; administer disciplinary action and conduct yearly performance appraisals. Hold regular meetings with direct reports to facilitate information flow and communication. Perform new‑hire training, develop work methods, training standards, and procedures; interpret rules and regulations. Teach and enforce safety regulations and all cleaning procedures, including floor‑care equipment maintenance and minor repairs. Perform daily inspections, document issues, and follow up on progress; report malfunctions and unsafe conditions. Perform technician duties during relief or emergency periods as required. Sweep or shovel snow from buildings and entrances; set up for special and athletic events. Perform all other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor. Qualifications Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum of 3–5 years of environmental services or related experience. Knowledge of cleaning equipment maintenance and minor repair. Technical knowledge of the commercial cleaning industry, including floor‑care experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and email. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to lead and manage people, working effectively with limited supervision. Proficiency in scheduling, overtime, leave approval, and payroll coordination. Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required. Valid Maryland driver’s license; ability to complete a driver’s clearance process. Commitment to the mission and values of a Catholic Jesuit education and institutional diversity. Physical/Environmental Demands Work involves regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, working in confined spaces, and lifting or carrying moderately heavy (20–50 lb) items, and occasionally very heavy (75 lb or over) items. Exposure to dust, chemicals, cold, heat, noise, vibrations, or dampness; and frequent use of powered machinery or shop equipment. The position requires moderate physical and environmental demands consistent with a supervisory role in a university setting. Compensation Hourly rate: $24.29 – $30.36, depending on experience and internal equity. Final compensation offers are determined by a variety of factors.
