A day in the life

You arrive at the Haywood Company facility ready to keep production moving. After a quick safety check, you review open work orders, prioritize preventive maintenance, and grab your meters. Before lunch, you’ve traced a control fault with a multimeter, reviewed a ladder logic diagram to clear a PLC alarm, and calibrated a scale to spec. Later, you bend and install conduit, pull wire, and dress conductors inside a control cabinet using the schematic. You coach an entry-level teammate through motor starter basics, document your PMs, tidy your workspace, and stand ready for any urgent call that requires swift troubleshooting—often with a scissor lift or Genie boom.

What you’ll tackle

• Execute installation, service, and repair of electrical equipment throughout the Haywood Company site.
• Champion safety by following all procedures and lockout/tagout practices.
• Use electrical test instruments to evaluate circuits, components, and systems.
• Size and install conduit, conductors, breakers, fuses, starters, motors, and related gear in line with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Install, service, replace, and repair instrumentation, electronics, and other electrical devices.
• Calibrate instrumentation, scales, and balances—and record results accurately.
• Specify, install, and troubleshoot AC/DC motors and variable-speed drives.
• Understand PLC operations; troubleshoot issues using ladder logic and documentation.
• Perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment and complete detailed work orders.
• Wire control panels and cabinets from drawings and schematics.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, manuals, and technical bulletins.
• Operate a forklift, scissor lift, and Genie boom safely as part of your daily work.
• Plan and organize your workload, meet timelines, and work with minimal supervision.
• Maintain proper tools and test meters and keep plant and shop areas orderly.
• Flex to work overtime on short notice whenever needed.

What you bring

• Valid driver’s license.
• Electrical trade school completion or 3+ years of hands-on electrical experience.

Physical capabilities

• Ability to lift 30 lbs overhead at least four times within an 8-hour shift.
• Comfortable climbing and working from a ladder.

Technical strengths

• PLC troubleshooting and programming fundamentals; PLC wiring experience.
• Reading and interpreting electrical schematics.
• Expert electrical troubleshooting across industrial systems and automation equipment.
• Electrical systems diagnostics and repair, including heavy equipment.
• Commercial and industrial electrical know-how, including conduit bending.
• Industrial electrical systems and panels: installation and commissioning.
• Relay testing and verification.
• Equipment installation and wiring to specification.

Tools and systems you’ll work with

• Heat gun, band saw, and standard hand tools.
• Switchgear and motor control centers (MCCs).
• Multimeters and other diagnostic instruments.
• Industrial controls, PLCs, and industrial robots.

You’ll also mentor junior teammates, uphold housekeeping standards, and carry out assignments independently—while staying ready for urgent calls that demand fast, accurate diagnostics.
