Job Description
Position Summary
Crestview Landscape is a growing, privately held builder of high-end residential landscape construction projects in the greater Los Angeles area. The company has been expanding it’s footprint in the marketplace and as part of its next stage of growth, Crestview Landscape is seeking to hire a dedicated Accounting Controller to own the accounting functions end-to-end and to serve as the financial backbone of the company.
This is a senior, hands-on, on premise leadership role. The Accounting Controller is responsible for the integrity of our financial reporting, the accuracy of our job-cost and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, the strength of our internal controls, and the day-to-day operation of accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. Just as importantly, the Controller is a business partner to ownership and operations—turning financial and job-cost data into insight that improves how we estimate, build, and manage margin on every project.
The role is well suited to a construction-industry accounting professional who is equal parts disciplined operator as well as systems / processes builder. Someone who pivot when needed / understanding your day change on a dime; yet is capable of staying focused in upholding company processes, policies, and controls ensuring the books are clean and accurately closed on time each month. Someone capable of owning the financial operations of a $ 30M specialty contractor who can also scale as the organization continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
• Own the full accounting cycle & general ledger; deliver an accurate, timely monthly and annual close.
• Prepare GAAP-basis financial statements appropriate to construction accounting, including percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
• Maintain reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts; ensure books are audit/review-ready at all times.
• Produce monthly financial packages and KPI reporting for ownership and leadership, with clear commentary on variances and trends.
•
Key Responsibilities
Candidates are required to submit a 30–60 second video introducing themselves and expressing their interest in the position. Please include a brief example of how you have used technology to solve a problem or how you prioritize and manage high-priority tasks. Upload your video to a cloud platform (e.g., Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive) and provide a live, shareable link in your application submission. You may include the link within your application or email it to careers crestviewlandscape.com
Job Cost & Work-in-Progress (WIP)
• Own job-cost accounting across all projects—labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and burden—ensuring costs are coded accurately and on time.
• Maintain the WIP schedule and over/under-billing analysis; track committed costs, cost-to-complete, and gross-margin fade by project.
• Manage progress billings, draws, retention/retainage, and lien releases in coordination with project managers and the billing function.
• Partner with estimating and operations to close the loop between estimated and actual production—surfacing labor and cost overruns early and translating them into actionable feedback for the field.
Systems, Process, & Controls
• Serve as the administrator and power user of Sage 100 Contractor —our system of record for accounting, job cost, and procurement.
• Own the financial integration between Procore and Sage (including materials, commitments, and purchase orders) and drive continuous improvement of the workflow between field, project management, and accounting systems.
• Oversee payroll processing and the payroll/time-tracking integration (Paychex with Exaktime/Arcoro), ensuring accuracy, compliance, and proper job costing of labor.
• Oversee accounts payables & ensure accurate & timely payment are made to all vendors according to their payment terms, discounts, and rebates.
• Oversee accounts receivables & ensure client invoices and payments are in line with contract terms.
• Oversee purchasing and procurement ensuring materials are being ordered accurately, timely, and within the contract’s budget.
• Identify, evaluate, and implement automation and process improvements (e.g., AP invoice automation) that reduce manual work and strengthen controls.
Cash, Treasury & Banking
• Manage cash flow forecasting and working-capital planning across active projects.
• Maintain banking relationships; monitor the line of credit, debt covenants, and borrowing capacity.
• Oversee fixed-asset and equipment accounting, including financing and depreciation.
Compliance, Tax & Risk
• Ensure compliance with federal and California requirements, including sales/use tax, wage-and-hour, and applicable reporting obligations.
• Coordinate with the external CPA on income tax, C-corporation matters, and year-end
• Ensure accurate & timely reporting / filings / payments are being made for all employee associated benefits & costs such as insurances, taxes, garnishments, contributions, retirement, etc.
• Support ownership with annual insurance renewals, surety/bonding requirements and capacity, and workers’ compensation and general-liability audits.
• Design & maintain internal controls & appropriate segregation of duties as the team grows.
Team Leadership & Business Partnership
• Build, lead, and develop the accounting team (AP, AR, Payroll, Purchasing, and accounting support roles).
• Act as a trusted financial advisor to the CEO, COO, and ownership; support strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Help instill a culture of process discipline, accountability, and data-driven decision-making across the organization.
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including a controller, assistant controller, or senior accounting leadership role.
• Direct construction-industry accounting experience, including job costing, WIP, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
• Demonstrated experience administering a construction ERP/accounting system; strong general-ledger and month-end close ownership.
• Working knowledge of California payroll, wage-and-hour, and tax compliance.
• Supervisory experience and the ability to build and develop a team.
• Advanced Excel skills and strong overall systems aptitude; high attention to detail and a documentation/process mindset.
Strongly Preferred
• Hands-on experience with Sage 100 Contractor (Company’s Accounting Software)
• Familiarity with Procore Construction Management Software
• Experience Exaktime/Arcoro (or comparable payroll and time-tracking platforms).
• Experience implementing internal controls / automations in a growing company.
Compensation & Benefits
Base starting salary range of $125,000 – $155,000 per year, commensurate with experience, plus an annual performance bonus of up to 10% of base salary.
Benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; a 401(k) package; and paid holidays. Crestview also offers an Unlimited Vacation Policy (subject to approval of time-off requests).
Working Relationships
The Controller reports to the Chief Operating Officer / Chief Financial Officer and works in close partnership with ownership & staff throughout the organization. This is a key pivotal hire as the company professionalizes its financial operations to support continued growth.
