Middle School Assistant Principal

The Middle School Assistant Principal at Rome City Schools serves as a key instructional and operational leader supporting the Principal across student achievement, staff development, stakeholder engagement, and school safety. In this role, the administrator oversees daily campus operations, analyzes academic performance data to guide interventions, and provides job-embedded coaching and evaluations for school staff. Qualified candidates must hold a valid Georgia Tier I Educational Leadership Certification, a Master's degree, and at least three years of prior school leadership experience. Operating on a 210- to 220-day schedule, the Assistant Principal maintains campus safety protocols, enforces restorative discipline practices, and fosters strong partnerships with families and the community.

Major Responsibilities:

• Student Achievement: Support the continuous improvement and implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. Analyze student performance data (CCRPI, district benchmarks, and formative assessments) to drive instructional decisions. Monitor academic interventions, MTSS processes, and special education services across all grade levels. Lead school-wide initiatives to improve student attendance, behavior, and academic progress. Assist with master scheduling, registration, and academic programming to ensure equitable course access. Support the expansion of advanced learning opportunities and student pathways.
• Staff Development: Assist in supervising, evaluating, and coaching certified and classified staff. Provide regular, job-embedded feedback to increase instructional effectiveness. Help plan and facilitate professional learning aligned with school and district goals. Foster a culture of high expectations, mutual accountability, and continuous improvement. Support the recruitment, onboarding, and mentoring of new staff members.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners. Communicate effectively regarding student progress, behavioral expectations, and district initiatives. Support family engagement initiatives, parent meetings, and school-wide events. Represent the school at district meetings, conferences, and community functions. Promote student voice, leadership opportunities, and extracurricular involvement within the school.
• Safety & Operations: Maintain a safe, secure, and orderly campus environment aligned with district safety protocols. Enforce student discipline and attendance policies using fair, consistent, and restorative practices. Oversee the execution of school safety plans, emergency drills, and crisis response protocols. Supervise daily operations, including student transitions, staff duty assignments, and campus supervision. Coordinate facility maintenance, operational needs, and overall campus security. Ensure sound fiscal management and appropriate use of school resources.
• Leadership & Administration: Assist the Principal in the overall management, administration, and leadership of the school. Demonstrate leadership responsibilities for the building. Support the implementation of district strategic goals, initiatives, and Board policies. Maintain accurate records and ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Leverage operational data and feedback to continuously optimize school systems. Contribute to building teacher and administrative leadership capacity within the school.

Qualifications:

• Education: Master's Degree in Educational Leadership required, or Master's Degree in another education field with completion of an Educational Leadership program within five (5) years.
• Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of successful school leadership experience (e.g., department head, instructional coach, assistant principal, or equivalent leadership role).
• Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Strong instructional leadership and data analysis skills. Ability to lead school culture and climate initiatives. Effective written and verbal communication. Leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to build relationships with students, staff, families, and the community. Knowledge of TKES/LKES, MTSS, PBIS, Infinite Campus, and student support systems. Conflict resolution and restorative practices. Proficiency in technology and data systems.
• The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
