Registered Nurse
The Registered Nurse performs under the direct supervision of the Director. The RN is delegated an assignment by the charge nurse to achieve quality patient care. The Clinical Nurse implements the nursing process systematically, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. This is done in collaboration with the unit charge nurse, as evidenced by documentation in the Patient Care Record and patient evaluations of care. The RN is responsible for patient care and accountable to the Director of Nursing. The Clinical Nurse demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. They assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs. Documentation of all care and pertinent information in the Medical Record is essential to ensure continuity of care. The job description is not intended to be all-inclusive; other reasonably related job duties may be assigned. The RN demonstrates technical aptitude for troubleshooting labor and delivery equipment, including fetal monitors and IV infusion pumps. They apply critical thinking skills in emergent situations by recognizing both maternal and fetal complications during various periods of care. The RN anticipates the needs of physicians and anesthesia to expedite emergencies. They should safely position laboring patients to enhance uteroplacental blood flow and use leg stirrups during a vaginal delivery. Recognizing and intervening in delivery complications, such as shoulder dystocia and hemorrhage, is crucial. The RN must tolerate physically demanding tasks, including repositioning patients under epidural anesthesia using safety measures. Safe practices for the mother-infant couplet are necessary. The RN recognizes compromised newborns, obtains assistance, and performs emergency interventions as needed. The ability to practice and educate on breastfeeding is essential. The RN communicates and interacts effectively with patients, families, and visitors of all age groups, being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Effective interactions and building respectful relationships with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals are expected. Adherence to safety standards and compliance with policies is required. Demonstrating a positive attitude and motivation to achieve departmental goals is essential. The RN participates in all competencies planned for the role by deadlines. Compliance with the departmental and facility policy is expected, including following the policies in the Employee Handbook. Using appropriate communication applications is necessary, and the spreading of rumors and gossip is prohibited. The role requires the ability to lift, handle, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
