Position Type: SUPPORT STAFF / Job Coach Date Posted: 12/12/2024 Location: Lehigh County, Pennsylvania Position Definition The person holding this position will be responsible for providing training and support for students involved in community-based vocational instruction and preparing them for the school to work transition. Relationship The Job Coach reports directly to the Supervisor of Special Programs and Services. Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Excellent driving record. Experience with transporting students, preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, patience, understanding, and congeniality. Excellent oral and written communication skills. General knowledge of Carbon and Lehigh Counties and local schools, businesses, and cities. Proficient in collecting and entering data related to student achievement. Efficiently uses an iPad. Maintains composure while driving with students. Organizes, plans, and manages job responsibilities to complete assignments with minimal supervision. Works independently. Knowledge of Special Programs and Services departmental procedures. Awareness of student’s disability implications in the workplace and transition to adult life. Can execute job tasks and break activities into small steps. Shows flexibility in the work day. Maintains confidentiality. Works well in a team environment. Completes tasks with attention to detail and accuracy. Engages in activities to increase knowledge and skills, completing at least twenty hours of professional development annually. Attends work regularly at assigned hours, subject to lawful leave rights and responsibilities. Physical Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, lift, reach, and communicate (vision, hearing, and speech) to effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities. Ability to independently ambulate in and around work areas. Ability to travel to and from assigned work locations without employer support. Ability to exhibit appropriate manual dexterity to effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities. Ability to conduct a safety restraint protocol which requires: A normal degree of flexibility. The ability to stand, walk, run, and shuffle for at least several minutes. The ability to kneel on one or two knees and then stand up. The ability to bend the trunk at 45 degrees and twist to either side. The ability to grasp firmly and raise hands above the head. The ability to learn and correctly demonstrate multi‑step physical skills. Authority The Job Coach will have the authority to perform all functions listed below in accordance with established policies and procedures. Functions / Duties / Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function/duty/responsibility at acceptable standards. In accordance with state and/or federal law, reasonable accommodations will be considered upon employee request. Essential Communicates with students of varying disabilities clearly, precisely, and with respect and sensitivity. Effectively multi‑tasks within deadlines, in accordance with WBLP guidelines. Utilizes technology effectively, including internet, email, iPads, and GPS. Participates effectively in implementing the IEP after reviewing referral forms and consulting WBLP teachers as needed. Demonstrates sensitivity to the diversity of individuals, students, and families. Provides one‑on‑one and/or small group assistance for students at community employment sites and/or educational sites. Monitors, models, and/or assists students to guarantee skill development while at a site. Maintains a safe learning environment by using universal precautions, independent community travel strategies, and behavioral/social interventions. Delivers strategies and uses equipment, materials, and technologies to accomplish individual student objectives in accordance with the IEP and WBLP guidelines. Accurately monitors, records, and reports the progress of each student, using WBLP tools such as task analysis, observational data, rubrics, graphs, and narratives. Follows itinerant daily scheduling of students. Exercises objective and prudent judgment when making decisions and considering alternatives. Communicates consistently with the Supervisor and/or WBLP teachers regarding schedules, sites, students, parents, and teachers. Serves as an employer liaison, maintaining a positive and respectful work relationship with worksite staff, supervisors, and other program staff, treating each equitably and professionally. Assists in developing business sites, including researching available and appropriate job sites, making initial business contacts, distributing program information, and obtaining contract signatures.
