The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and he is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of school leaders and teachers to partner with him in moving the district toward its goals. REPORTS TO REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Staff Relations DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS The work involves responsibility for performing legal research and other law related tasks with a limited degree of professional judgment. Inasmuch as employees in the class are not a member of the Bar, their assignments and activities are typically less complex than those ordinarily executed by attorneys. Employees in the class typically exercise no supervision. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES Provides legal research and information upon matters pending in the Department of Law; Prepares affidavits, briefs and other legal documents as needed; Assists in all legal matters such as hearings, trials, suits, injunctions etc., as may be required; Performs legal tasks assigned by an attorney‑at‑law; Assists legal counsel in all matters. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS Working knowledge of legal principles; Ability to perform legal research; Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; Ability to apply principles, facts, and precedence to legal problems; MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Candidates must be a registered student in a law school of recognized standing; or, a graduate of a recognized law school. LOCATION Staff Relations - Office of Human Resources at Central Offices WORKING HOURS This position will work a minimum of 20 hours per week. This position is part-time. SALARY/COMPENSATION The pay rate for this position is $15.50 per hour.
