Job Title: Law & Motion AttorneyLocation: California – Fully Remote About the client: Our client is a California-based, trial-focused civil litigation defense firm representing insurance carriers, businesses, public entities, and other clients in complex and high-exposure matters. The firm’s practice includes insurance defense, catastrophic injury, premises liability, professional liability, product liability, transportation liability, insurance coverage and bad faith, municipal liability, and other complex civil litigation matters. The firm is seeking a Law & Motion Attorney to join its growing California litigation team. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with strong legal research, writing, and motion practice experience who enjoys working on sophisticated litigation matters in a collaborative, fully remote environment. Position Overview The Law & Motion Attorney will focus primarily on researching, drafting, and arguing dispositive and non-dispositive motions in California state and federal courts. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience handling litigation strategy and motion practice, with the ability to independently manage assignments while working closely with partners and litigation teams. This attorney will play an important role in developing case strategy, identifying dispositive issues, preparing persuasive written advocacy, and supporting attorneys through all phases of civil litigation. Key Responsibilities: Research and analyze complex legal and factual issues arising in civil litigation. Draft high-quality motions, oppositions, replies, petitions, and supporting briefs. Prepare and respond to motions for summary judgment and summary adjudication. Handle demurrers, motions to strike, discovery motions, motions in limine, and other litigation‑related motions. Prepare memoranda of law, declarations, evidentiary objections, and proposed orders. Review pleadings, discovery, deposition transcripts, expert materials, and case records to identify legal and procedural issues. Develop motion strategies designed to strengthen the client’s position and resolve matters efficiently. Assist trial attorneys and partners with case strategy and litigation planning. Conduct California and federal legal research and stay current on relevant statutory and case law developments. Prepare for and participate in hearings, including arguing motions when appropriate. Communicate effectively with partners, associates, clients, claims professionals, and litigation support teams. Manage multiple assignments and deadlines while maintaining high-quality work product. Collaborate with attorneys handling broader litigation and trial responsibilities. Qualifications: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school. Active membership in the California State Bar and in good standing. 2+ years of civil litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense, complex litigation, professional liability, personal injury, premises liability, transportation, product liability, or related defense practice. Salary and Other Compensation: The annual salary for this position is between [$200,000 – $225,000 annually]. Factors which may affect pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
