Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Provide students with appropriate distance or virtual instruction in the assigned academic subject area to help them fulfill their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth potential. Provide instruction and coaching to help students develop the skills and abilities to excel in assigned sport(s). Contribute to the education program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics. Qualifications Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for the subject and level assigned Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned Current automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (can be obtained through FSISD) Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of the core academic subject assigned Knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules Ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical (including if bus driving duties are required) Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience: At least one year of student teaching or approved internship Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Strategies Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district's curriculum program requirements and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect an understanding of students' learning styles and needs, and present subject matter in accordance with guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations. Conduct an assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students, in accordance with guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements. Plan and assign work to the instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion. Develop and implement lesson plans and activities through distance or virtual learning to fulfill the district's curriculum program requirements and show written evidence of preparation, as required. Prepare lessons in instructional formats that accommodate differences in individual student needs. Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and resources for distance or virtual learning that reflect an understanding of the assigned students' learning styles and needs, in accordance with guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations. Use various instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student-athletes in their assigned sport. Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Work with other school staff members to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student-athletes. Student Growth and Development Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal. Be a positive role model for students and support the school district's mission. Provide ongoing feedback on student achievement through formal and informal methods. Be a positive role model for students and support the goals of the campus and school district. Student Management Accompany and supervise student-athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports both at home and on out-of-town trips. Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations regarding academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices. Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the Student Handbook. Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation. Classroom Management and Organization Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the Student Handbook. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and other documents. Create a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development. Program Management Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis: model performance criteria and physical movements required for successful student performance of the sport. Take all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities. Work with the athletic director to schedule competitions and plan season activities, including special events and tournaments. Coordinate with the transportation department for travel arrangements to out-of-town events—Drive bus to transport students to out-of-district competitions. Ensure compliance with all UIL rules. Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the coaching program and make changes based on findings. Communication Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members. Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents. The rest of the workday is committed to planning, preparing, implementing, and evaluating lessons and activities. Communicate with students or parents at least two times per week via phone, email, or a virtual device. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers. Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Administration Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. Initiate and approve purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies. Oversee cleaning, repair, and storage of all campus athletic equipment and maintain a current inventory of all equipment and fixed assets within the program. Supervisory Responsibilities Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s). Assign and oversee the completion of the work of assistant coaches and student athletic assistants. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED); Personal computer, phone system, video/instructional equipment, and peripherals. Athletic equipment, standard office equipment including computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED); operate a school bus. Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Prolonged sitting. Prolonged standing; kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping; frequent driving; moderate grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and reaching. Motion: Frequent walking and repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists: frequent walking and physical movements associated with the sport(s) assigned. Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment. Frequently light lifting (less than 15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting or carrying (15-44 pounds). Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular noise exposure. Work inside from home or from a location other than the school building. Work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather) and inside; frequent noise exposure; frequent district-wide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; moderate exposure to vehicle fumes and work around moving vehicles.
