The Senior Environmental Engineer will lead investigations and remediation projects at contaminated sites regulated under CERCLA in California/Nevada/Arizona/Oregon/Utah, ensuring technical quality, regulatory compliance, and effective communication with clients and stakeholders. The role includes developing and implementing remedial investigation, feasibility study, removal action, and remedial action work plans; overseeing field programs; and interpreting complex environmental data to support risk management and remedy selection.

Key responsibilities include coordinating multi-disciplinary teams; preparing and reviewing CERCLA-compliant technical documents (RI/FS reports, decision documents, design packages, and construction completion reports); interfacing with federal and state regulatory agencies; and mentoring junior staff. The position requires deep knowledge of CERCLA, EPA requirements, and relevant California regulations and guidance (e.g., DTSC and Regional Water Boards), strong project management skills (scope, schedule, budget), and excellent written and verbal communication.

The salary range for this position is $124,117-$155,766/year. This position may qualify as a telecommute position. The ideal candidate will reside in the Southwest region of the United States.

Essential duties and responsibilities include managing the completion of assigned tasks, developing and implementing RI/FS, removal action, and remedial action work plans, developing conceptual site models, collecting and interpreting field data, conducting statistical analyses of monitoring data sets, supporting multiple projects, traveling to perform fieldwork, site visits, or meetings, preparing or assisting with the preparation of plans, evaluating remedial and restoration alternatives, updating job knowledge, enhancing company and organization reputation, providing scientific and technical guidance, supporting, coordination, and oversight to project staff, reviewing and documenting the processes necessary to obtain environmental permits, licenses, and other requirements, meeting all safety responsibilities and goals, understanding best management practices as they relate to environmental investigations, implementing process improvement and tracking and reporting on changes to scope and schedule, and performing other duties as assigned by management.

Level specific responsibilities include providing client assistance to program and project managers; scope, schedule, and budget on projects, maintaining 2-3 areas of technical expertise, leading technical project execution and document preparation, senior review project documents, preparing task orders and project proposals, project staffing and technical mentoring, and up to 25% of the time may be spent conducting fieldwork, potentially in remote locations.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, with a preference for civil, environmental, chemical, or geotechnical, US Citizenship, ability to pass background checks by various Federal Agencies, valid Driver's License with a clean driving record, proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite and databases such as Access and PowerPoint, and adept at explaining technical aspects of fieldwork to internal and external clients verbally and in writing.

Preferred qualifications include proficiency in other programs such as Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, GIS, databases, and environmental modeling programs, current 40-Hour HAZWOPER, CPR/1st Aid Certified, experience working on projects with Federal clients, experience working on projects valued at >$1M, experience working on biologically sensitive project locations, ability to obtain California QSP and/or QSD certification within first year of employment, project management experience, experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures.

Working environment may be indoors or outdoors, subject to confined spaces, changes in temperature, weather conditions, and noise levels.

Physical demands include frequent lifting, sitting, standing, stooping for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity, should have good hand-eye coordination and motion control in coordination with handling tools, equipment, and other related components, reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 12 hours, frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, such as small electrical components, equipment, and other materials.
